Please read carefully the Admission guidelines for B.A. programme published in this document followed by the detailed subject (of your choice) template before proceeding for online registration for Admission. Admission Announcement (Final and Second Round) Dates for online Registration | Bachelor of Arts programme Opening Date Closing Date 03rd August, 2015 | Monday 07th August, 2015 | Friday (5 pm) Eligibility Criteria Who are eligible to apply for admission into B.A. Semesters 01 and 02? 1. Fresh Case Candidates, who have passed HSC or its equivalent Examination of March | July 2015 with English as one of their subjects are eligible to apply for admission into the First Semester of the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme of the Faculty of Arts. 2. Gap Case Candidates, who have passed HSC or its equivalent Examination of March | July 2014, 2013 or 2012 with English as one of their subjects are eligible to apply for admission into the First Semester of the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) programme of the Faculty of Arts. Admission to such candidates may be granted subject to availability of seats. 3. Readmission Case Candidates, who have passed HSC or its equivalent Examination of March | July 2014, 2013 or 2012 with English as one of their subjects and have taken admission in any degree | diploma programme in any University | Faculty | College shall have to furnish transfer certificate | migration certificate from the previous University | Faculty | College before being granted admission. Admission to such candidates may be granted subject to availability of seats. 4. Core Psychology requires 50% at HSC Exam. | Core English requires 45% in English subject at HSC Exam. 5. Candidates, who have not passed HSC or its equivalent Examination with English as one of the subjects. 6. Candidates, who have passed HSC or its equivalent Examination as PRIVATE CANDIDATES from Examination Boards, other than the Gujarat Higher Secondary Education Board. 7. Candidates, who have passed HSC or its equivalent Examination before March 2012. Notes 8. Online Registration for admission doesn't guarantee admission to the Faculty of Arts. 9. Must bring original and photocopy of online registration form. Final Admission will be confirmed only after – 10. Candidates seeking their admissions need to select their subjects during the visit at Faculty of Arts. 11. Submission of original and photocopied set (self attested) of the documents required (list is printed at the end of the guidelines) which will be duly verified and cleared by the admission committee. 12. Payment of fees for semester 1 and 2 | Boy -­‐ 6500 (including examination fees) | Girl -­‐ 5300 (including examination fees) 13. Further that all students, thus admitted into Semester 01, 03, 05 will have to strictly observe rules of the Faculty of Arts in terms of intake capacity for various courses and SEAT LIMITS, which may change from time to time. Terms v Semester An academic year (July-­‐June) gets split into two semesters. Each semester has Admissions, Teaching, Mid Semester Test and End Semester Examination and other related activities. v Programme The term Programme replaces term Degree in semester system. v Credit Every course carries some defined weight, it is Credit. 1 credit = 1 hour of direct teaching per week per semester or two hours of practical | field work per week per semester. v Course Courses construct programme. The term Course replaces term Paper in semester system. Each course is identified by a unique course code. Course has a course title and topics for study divided into three units. Selection of other subjects revolves around Core. After completion of your B.A. Honors, you will earn a degree in Core subject. You become eligible for Master of Arts programme in the Core subject after B.A. Hence, before deciding to opt for Core Course, please think carefully and then decide. Example, if you select, Sociology as your Core subject, then you will be awarded B.A. in Sociology. Core has to be different than both Allied subjects. v Allied Subject selected for Allied course holds second level of importance. You are expected to select two Allied subjects (both have to be different from each other) to Core. Learning of Core should become easy because of the learning of Allied! Selection of subjects for Allied should help understand Core subject more effectively! Example, if you wish to do BA in Literature of any language, then your Allied courses should help you learn that Literature better! Total Allied courses: 08 (Allied: 1, 3, 5 and 7 | One subject of your choice) | (Allied: 2, 4, 6 and 8 | Second subject of your choice) Subjects of Allied 01 and 02 should be different from each other and should also be different from Core subject. v Foundation Foundation Course is a basic level mandatory course aiming at preparing students for advanced study. Selection has to be made from the choices offered for particular course. Total Foundation Courses: 10 v Inter Disciplinary Elective (IDE) Subject for Inter Disciplinary Elective course is to be selected based on the interest and free choice. These courses are essentially aimed at enhancing the knowledge base of students of their choice. Total IDE courses: 08 v Project Project is an independent and self-­‐learning opportunity guided by the teachers of the Department in specific areas of Core subject as offered by the Department of core subject. Selection of Courses v Core 01 will need one subject selection. Selected subject will continue as 01-­‐20 core courses of that subject. It is one time selection. Choices | Subjects on offer for Core Course : Archaeology & Ancient History, Economics, English, French, Geography, German, Gujarati, Hindi, History, Linguistics, Marathi, Mathematics, Persian, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology , Russian, Sanskrit, Sociology v Allied 01 and 02 will need two subject selections. Selected subject for Allied 01 will continue as Allied 01, 03, 05, 07. Selected subject for Allied 02 will continue as Allied 02, 04, 06, 08. This is one time selection. Allied 01 subject has to be different from Allied 02. Both Allied subjects should be different from Core 01. Choices | Subjects on offer for Allied Courses : Archaeology & Ancient History, Economics, English, French, Geography, German, Gujarati, Hindi, History, Linguistics, Marathi, Mathematics, Persian, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Russian, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Sociology, Statistics v Foundation will have to be chosen from the choices given. (Refer to the table Selection of Subjects) v IDE will have to be chosen from the choices given. (Refer to the table Selection of Subjects) v No change of subject is permissible in any category of course after securing admission. Hence, students and parents are strongly advised to be aware about the entire scheme of the semester system and choice based credit system; i.e. broad contents, career prospects and salient features of the various subjects as well as the suitability and interest of the student in particular subject before finalizing the choice. Please note that a wrong selection of subjects can result into complete rupture of student's academic career. v The Faculty of Arts will provide counseling to students to sensitize them to the scope, opportunities and prospects of various subjects offered by Faculty of Arts. Notes v The Medium of Instruction at the Faculty of Arts is English. All subjects are taught in English except the Modern European or Indian Languages which are taught in the respective languages and the examinations are also conducted in the same languages. v 70% attendance in all classes is mandatory. Students who do not adhere to this rule are liable to be restricted from appearing in examinations. v The social Orientation and Extension Activity courses include: NCC, NSS and ACC, which are conducted under the aegis of the NCC units, NSS coordination office at the Faculty of Social Work and ACC at the Department of Physical Education (Union Pavilion) and all new entrants are required to opt for any one of them, for which they are advised to contact the concerned offices directly. v M. K. Amin Arts and Science College and College of Commerce, Padra is not offering any course at any level from the academic year 2015-­‐16 onwards. Therefore students are advised not to apply for admission at any programmes of Arts at M . K. Amin Arts and Science College and College of Commerce, Padra. v Foreign students applying for admission should have obtained a valid Visa for the study and should furnish required documents like PEC (Provisional Eligibility Certificate), HIV status and police registration before being granted admission. Foreign students taking admission will have to pay additional amount of Rs. 5000/-­‐ to the Foreign Students' Welfare Fund. v The Disciplinary rules regarding students determined by the Faculty | University authorities and as applicable from time to time will have to be strictly observed by the students admitted to any class in the Faculty of Arts. University is smoke free zone and smoking is not allowed anywhere inside the campus. Ragging in any form will be punished strictly and before finalizing his | her admission the student has to sign anti ragging affidavit as per UGC rules during the online registration process. v Wherever applicable in terms of limited number of seats, the Faculty of Arts follows guidelines of the Government of Gujarat in the matter of reservation of seats for candidates belonging to the categories of SC (7%), ST (15%) and SEBC (27%). v All fees including examination fees for both semesters will have to be paid on the spot at the time of admission. Boy -­‐ 6500 (including examination fees) | Girl -­‐ 5300 (including examination fees). Students whose family income is less than rupees 2.25 lakhs per annum are eligible to get full refund of the fees through the Directorate of Students Welfare. The eligible students for such fee refund should apply separately to the Directorate with the required documents for availing of this benefit. The necessary announcement for the same will be made by the Faculty of Arts office in due course. v For economically disadvantaged students with parental income of less than rupees 4.5 lakhs per annum, the Government of Gujarat offers Chief Minister's Scholarship Scheme.
