Objectives Students will be able: ● to say “中秋节/Mid-Autumn Festival ” and “ 月饼/Moon Cake” ● to know the date of the Moon festival and learn how to write the character “中”; ● to know how to celebrate the Moon Festival; ● to know the legend of the Moon Lady/ Chang E ● to know the legend of the Sun Hunter/ Hou Yi ● to know the origin of moon cake ● to sing the song: moon. (craft table) ● to make “月饼/Moon Cake”( craft table) ● to understand the differences of the custom of The Mid-Autumn Festival ● to compare the difference between American holiday with The Mid-Autumn Festival ● to say the common language:你好,谢谢 、老师、停 Opening Warm-up 15 minutes Routine/Activiti 1. Greet with students by 你好and introduce es teacher themselves 2. Introduce classroom rules 3. Students get to know each others by little practise 4. Build up background information about the topic of Mid-Autumn Festival 5. Introduce the procedure how to rotate to next station: learning center 6. Group the students into 4 small groups Main Learning Activities (20 minutes = for each table at same times. ) Station # 1 = The teacher will tell the story of moon Festival, the origin of Moon Cake, and the Legends of Hou Yi and Chang E. Station # 2: Food = The teacher will demonstrate how to make moon cake and decorate the moon cake with the character “月”, which means moon in Chinese. Station # 3 : Customs= The teacher will teach moon Festival culture, along with its customs around the world Station # 4 : Craft = the dance /change and houyi. The teachers will give instructions to students and help them do hand-made activites. ( different assignments according to the ages) Station #1/ fact Grade K-2 will watch 3 videos and know “what, when, who, how is the moon festival and learn how to say moon cake and Mid Autumn festival in Chinese Grade 3-5 will watch 3 videos and know “what, when, who, how is the moon festival and learn how to say moon cake and Mid Autumn festival in Chinese Grade 6-8 learn will watch 3 videos and know “what, when, who, how is the moon festival and learn how to say moon cake and Mid Autumn festival in Chinese Station # 2/ food Grade 9-12 will watch 3 videos and know “what, when, who, how is the moon festival and learn how to say moon cake and Mid Autumn festival in Chinese Grade K-2 will watch a video and make the moon cake and learn how to say moon cake in Chinese Grade 3-5 learn how to say moon cake in Chinese and they will watch a video and make Station # 3/ craft the moon cake and decorate it with the character “月” Grade 6-8 learn how to say moon cake in Chinese and they will watch a video and make the moon Station #4 customs cake and decorate it with the character “月” Grade 9-12 learn how to say moon cake in Chinese and they will watch a video and make the moon cake and decorate it with the characters “月饼” Grade K-2 will draw a picture about moon festival they learn and sing a song :moon. Grade 3-5 will draw a picture about moon festival they learn and sing a song :moon. Grade 6-9 sing a song :moon.and dance “change and houyi” Grade 10-12 sing a song :moon.and dance “change and houyi” Grade K-2 will acknowledge the differences between the Thanksgiving Holiday and MidAutumn festival; Grade 3-5 will learn the pronunciation about the Moon festival and the greeting in Chinese Grade 6-9 will learn how to write the character in Chinese about “中” Grade 10-12 will learn the harmony meaning behind the shape of circle, for example, moon cake, round table. moon Closure 7 minutes 1. Present the productions in class 2. The teachers will help students to review the words and retell the moon festival. 3.
