Glogster User Directions Glogster is a free cloud computing site which allows members to create and share interactive posters (called glogs). Glogs can include text, images, video, sounds, and animations. Because it’s cloud computing, it’s accessible from any Internet connected site through a simple login. To begin, make sure you have your login information provided by your teacher. You should have a nickname and a password along with a first time login link. You will need to use this link the first time you login, but after that you will go to edu.glogster.com and login using your teacher-provided nickname and password. At first login, it may ask you if you need to change you name for easier identification. You shouldn’t need to do this unless there is a mistake. This takes you to the Glogster dashboard which acts as a portal to what you want to do next. From here you can view glogs, create a glog, view classmate glogs, and view favorites. To Create a Glog: Click on Create New Glog. You will be taken to a page that looks like this: Don’t worry. This is just the default page. You can personalize it by using the magnet tool. The magnet tool is the black box located to the left of your screen. We will be using it to edit our page. The first think to do is edit the wall. There are two walls- the glog wall and the page wall. The glog wall is the background and the page wall is the edges. To change the wall click on wall and select. This is what appears: You can select a category like flowers and then scroll through the choices available. When you find one you like, click on it and then select use it. If you prefer, you can use a solid color for the page wall by selecting solid color. To use a picture for the wall, you can either link it from another page or upload it. If using a web image, I recommend simply linking to avoid using a lot of memory with an upload. If you are using an image taken with a digital camera, you would need to upload. To link an image, simply find an image you want. Right click on the image and select properties. The window which opens gives you the URL address. To things to be careful of: Your image must be a JPEG and you must get the entire address. Copy this address. Go back to your Glogster page and under the Wall tools select My Pictures and Link. Paste address in the box. Select Use It. It should become the wall. The same process can be used to change the page wall. To upload a picture saved to your computer, click on Upload. Locate the file you want to use and select Open. Then click Use It on the Glogster screen. Next let’s add text. Using your magnet tool, select Text. You have three options: title, bubble, and sticker. Let’s title your page. Select Text – Title – Browse selections to find one – Use It. To edit text within the box, select edit. Highlight text to replace. Type appropriate text. You can also change the font and color and size of text in this window. Click OK when you’re done. You can resize the text book by clicking on the box and then dragging the handlebars. A unique feature of Glogster is that boxes can be rotated by clicking on the handlebars that look like an arrowed semicircle. This process can be repeated to add stickers or bubble text boxes as well. Another unique feature of Glogster is that if there is more text than room in the box, it will add a scroll bar so readers can scroll through the text without having to take up more space on the page. This reinforces the idea that Glogster is made to be interactive and not simply print and read. Adding Images/Video/Sound You add images/ video/sound to the page in the same way you would use them as the wall page – through an upload or link. To Upload: To upload a picture or video saved to your computer, click on Upload. Locate the file you want to use and select Open. Then click Use It on the Glogster screen. To Link: To link an image or video, simply find an image you want. Right click on the image and select properties. The window which opens gives you the URL address. To things to be careful of: Your image must be a JPEG and you must get the entire address. Copy this address. Go back to your Glogster page and under the Image tools select My Pictures and Link. Paste address in the box. Select Use It. You can add frames to images by simply selecting Add a Frame before selecting Use It. Videos are a little harder to link to because of the various formats. Schooltube and YouTube videos link easily as would self-created video. You can also add a frame and player to videos and sounds. Images and video can be edited the same as text. To resize or rotate use the handlebars. Preview and Save To preview links and complete page, click on preview. Then back to edit. To save work, select save and publish. Title your glog and select a category (you must select a category). Mark it as private so it’s only viewable by you and your teacher. Remember to never use your full name on the Internet. Initials or nicknames only. Glogster will then ask what you want to do next, go back to dashboard. If you scroll down, you should see your glog under Your Glogs. Linking Multiple Pages Each Glogster page generates its own URL. The URL is given on your dashboard page. Next to each glog is a box that says Link. You can copy that code. Then treat it the same way you would any external web page you wanted to link to text or images. When a link is active, a pink circle will appear around the image or text which is the link. When you click on it, you are taken to that link. To View Other People’s Glogs Go to Glogpedia (at the top of the page). You can view by ratings, favorites, last updated, or alphabetical. If you see one you want to keep for later, add it to your favorites and it will be on your dashboard.
