4 MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES 2017 PLAYOFFS GAME NOTES Dynamic Duo: Mike Conley and Marc Gasol recorded the highest combined scoring average in a playoff series by any duo in franchise history… Conley himself scored 20 or more points in five consecutive playoff games (Games 2‐6), the longest such streak in franchise postseason history. HIGHEST SCORING AVERAGE BY TOP DUO IN PLAYOFF SERIES, FRANCHISE HISTORY Second‐Leading Scorer Postseason/Opponent Marc Gasol (19.3) 2017 First Round vs San Antonio Mike Conley 2011 First Round vs Oklahoma City Jason Williams 2005 First Round vs Phoenix Leading Scorer Mike Conley (24.7) Zach Randolph Pau Gasol Combined PPG 44.0 38.8 38.3 Ageless: Vince Carter contributed in the postseason even at 40 years old. The last time that happened came on March 17, 1997 against Washington when the Bullets – they would not be known as the Wizards until the following season – routed the Spurs 109‐85 despite 23 giveaways... That was Popovich’s 47th career game as a head coach after taking over the job midseason (he has now coached 1,656 regular season games and 260 postseason contests)… The day prior to that game against the Bullets, Tim Duncan’s Wake Forest Demon Deacons were defeated by Stanford University, ending his four‐
year collegiate career… Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale was less than a year removed from graduating from the University of San Diego… Grizzlies wing Vince Carter was a sophomore at the University of North Carolina… The Grizzlies played their home games in Vancouver, British Columbia. No team has won a playoff game against San Antonio despite 23 turnovers or more since Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul‐Jabbar and James Worthy guided Pat Riley’s top‐seeded Los Angeles Lakers over the eighth‐seeded Spurs, 122‐110, on April 29, 1988 in Game 1 of their first round series. Giant Killers: Memphis’ first round series against the San Antonio Spurs was the seventh time the Grizzlies have met a postseason opponent who won at least 60 games during the regular season… The Spurs went 61‐21 in 2016‐17 after going 67‐15 the previous season, the first time in franchise history they have won 60+ games in consecutive seasons. BIOGRAPHY Hired by Memphis as the 13th head coach in franchise history on May 29, 2016, David Fizdale enters his first season as head coach of the Grizzlies. Fizdale joined the Grizzlies after spending the previous eight seasons (2008‐16) with the Miami Heat, including the final two as the assistant head coach and the previous six as an assistant coach under Erik Spoelstra. During that time, Fizdale’s assistance in game preparation, involvement in player development and outstanding rapport with a superstar‐loaded roster played a major role in the Heat’s championship success. Dating back to his first season on the Heat sidelines in 2008‐09, Miami won more playoff games (70) and playoff series (15) than any team in the NBA and compiled the league’s second‐best regular season (.623) and fourth‐best postseason (.619) winning percentages. Before his tenure in Miami, Fizdale spent four seasons (2004‐08) as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks, where he was instrumental in the development of their young players. The Hawks increased their win total in each of his final three seasons and in 2007‐08 earned the franchise’s first postseason appearance since 1999. He began his NBA coaching career as an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors for one season (2003‐04). Prior to joining the Warriors, Fizdale spent five seasons coaching in the college ranks. After one year (1997‐98) in the Heat video department, he started his coaching career as an assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of San Diego. After four seasons (1998‐2002) with the Toreros, he spent one season (2002‐03) as an assistant coach at Fresno State University. A three‐year starter at point guard while playing at the University of San Diego, Fizdale was selected to the All‐West Coast Conference team after his senior season in 1996. The Los Angeles native earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in sociology from San Diego in 1996. Fizdale and his wife Natasha currently reside in East Memphis. He has one son, Kyle Jackson. 2017 Playoffs – Memphis Grizzlies Game Notes 11 #9 TONY ALLEN LAST FIVE GAMES Date/Opp 4/17 @ SAS 4/20 vs SAS 4/22 vs SAS 4/25 @ SAS 4/27 vs SAS GUARD/FORWARD Height: 6‐4 Weight: 213 MIN FG FGA Inactive (Right calf) Inactive (Right calf) Inactive (Right calf) Inactive (Right calf) Inactive (Right calf) FG% GP/S 2017 PLAYOFFS AVERAGES GP/S 3FG 2016‐17 SEASON AVERAGES DOB: 1/11/1982 3FGA 3FG% Prior to NBA: Oklahoma State FT FTA FT% ORB Home Country: USA DRB REB AST 71/66 PPG 9.1 RPG 5.5 APG 1.4 FG% ‐ PPG ‐ RPG ‐ APG ‐ FG% PF .461 ‐ NBA Years Exp.: 12 STL TO BLK +/‐ PTS STL 1.62 MIN 27.0 STL ‐ MIN ‐ 2016‐17 SEASON CAREER 2017 PLAYOFFS: Out indefinitely after sustaining a right lower leg injury in the regular season finale on April 12 vs. Dallas… HIGHS PTS 22 1/13/17 @ HOU 30 12/15/06 vs DEN Missed six games (April 15‐27) with a strained right calf.
