What is meant by "Frontier Research" ?
Frontier Research deals with:
• the creation of new knowledge
• most exciting and risky research areas
• connection between the creation of new knowledge and
useful knowlegde at the same time
• multi-, inter- or transdisciplinary research

The ERC - Start Up Strategy • ERC Starting Independent Research Grants:
- € 300-350 m per year
(around 200 grants awarded each year, project duration up to 5 years)
- for independent and excellent individual research teams
(transnationally or nationally composed)
• Independence:
- "... investigators having authority to apply for, hold, and manage their
own research funding, and to publish as senior authors"
• Submission Procedure:
- two step procedure
- electronic proposal submission (sub-deadlines)
First calls at the end of 2006 or in early 2007
