Application Instructions
Please see the appropriate section for application instructions:
Section 1: Active NAU Students
For students who have completed coursework at NAU less than 3 consecutive terms
ago (excludes winter and summer terms).
Section 2: Readmission to NAU
For students who have completed coursework at NAU more than 3 consecutive terms
ago (excludes winter and summer terms).
Section 3: New NAU Students, Current Non-Degree Seeking Students & Re-applicant Students
For students who have not attended NAU before.
AND
For students who have attended NAU but have not completed coursework at NAU.
AND
For current non-degree seeking students.
Section 1: Active NAU Students
If you have completed coursework at NAU less than 3 consecutive terms ago (excludes
winter and summer terms), you must email [email protected] to be placed into the
“Federal Agency Training” Student Group. You will be contacted by the School of Forestry with
your next steps to enrollment. Current non-degree seeking students must apply as New NAU
Students using Section 3.
Section 2: Readmission to NAU
In order to qualify for readmission, you must have completed at least one class at NAU and
have not been enrolled at NAU for at least three consecutive terms (excluding summer and
winter terms). This section is NOT for current non-degree seeking students.
Complete the Application for Readmission (Undergraduate) located on the Registrar’s webpage under
Enrollment & Petition Forms at http://nau.edu/Registrar/Forms-and-Policies/
Alternatively, you can click on Student Resources, then on Apply for Readmission (Undergraduate), and
download the PDF.
1. On the topmost line of the form next to Campus, write Online.
2. Next to Intended Major, write Exploratory.
3. Fill in the remaining application information, including residency.
4. Once signed and complete, this form may be faxed to 928-523-1414 or emailed to
[email protected].
5. You will receive an email once your application has been processed. Applicants typically receive
a readmission decision within 15 to 20 business days of submission.

Section 3: New NAU Students, Current Non-Degree Seeking Students & Re-applicant Students
If you have attended NAU in the past but have not completed coursework or received credit, you must
reapply to NAU at nau.edu/apply. If you are currently enrolled as a non-degree seeking student, you
must re-apply to NAU as a degree-seeking student in order to earn the 401-Series Fire Ecology
Management Certificate.
If you are a current non-degree seeking student, please complete this section.
STEP 1: Apply to Northern Arizona University
 Go directly to http://www.nau.edu/apply

Select Freshman or Transfer, according to your applicant type.

If you have completed 11 or less transferable college credits since high school
graduation, you must apply as a freshman.
If you have completed 12 or more transferable college credits at another college or
university (since graduating from high school), you must apply as a transfer.

 Enter your personal information, including your email address, to set up your account and begin
the application.

Under the Enrollment and Major section of the application, select the term for which you want
to apply.
Under Choose a Major, select Exploratory.
Under Campus, select Online.

Fill out all sections of the application including the Arizona Residency Information.
Transfer Applicants: If you indicated on the application that you attended institutions prior to
NAU, you will be prompted to upload pictures of your transcripts. As a 401-Series applicant, you
do not have to upload transcripts.
Ensure that all information is correct before submitting the application.
If you experience difficulty completing the application, please contact Undergraduate
Admissions at 928-523-3864 (Erik Johnson) or 928-523-0602 (Emily Schlittenhart). Tell them you
are going to be taking 401-Series certificate coursework through the School of Forestry. They
can view your application and assist with troubleshooting.
Pay the $25 application fee with an e-check or credit card.
Once you have completed, submitted, and paid for your application, please send an email to
[email protected] to notify the School of Forestry that you have applied and to request
membership in the “Federal Agency Training” Student Group.
You will not be able to enroll in 401-Series courses until you are placed into the Federal Agency
Training Student Group.
STEP 2: Set Up Your NAU Email Account and Password
 Upon payment of the application, you will receive an email from NAU acknowledging the receipt
of your application. This email contains instructions for setting up your LOUIE (Lumberjack
Online University Information Environment) account.
 You can monitor the status of your application on the LOUIE account.
 If you do not know your User ID, go to www.nau.edu/password. When prompted for your User
ID, select “Don’t Know” and fill in the requested information.
 Follow the prompts to set up your password.
 If you are admitted, you will receive a letter of admission containing your User ID.
 Call the Student Technology Center at 888-520-7215 or 928-523-9294 if you require assistance
setting up your NAU Gmail account.
STEP 3: Submit your Proposition 300 Documentation
 Please complete this step to ensure you are charged the appropriate tuition rate.
 Please note that if you have submitted this documentation to NAU previously, it is not necessary
to complete this step again.
 Effective December 7, 2006, a person who is not a citizen, a legal resident of the U.S., or who is
without lawful immigration status, is not entitled to classification as an in-state student for
tuition purposes.
 This law applies to all students attending Northern Arizona University.
 Students who fail to provide proof of eligibility will be charged out-of-state tuition and cannot
receive tuition waivers, grants, scholarship assistance, financial aid, tuition assistance or any
other type of financial assistance that is subsidized or paid in whole or in part with state monies.

 You must submit this information to the Registrar’s Office by faxing it to 928-523-1414.
 Students are also notified of the Proposition 300 requirement on their LOUIE account.
