Lions Need U NOW Information: My starting budget was £300,000 for this project with 1000m squared space. After all my calculations on spending: food for the lions, bedding costs, medical costs, toys for lions to play with, litter scoops and staff, I remain with £5,920 and 541m squared of space, still left to be used. Budget Budget Budget remaining Space Space available(m squared) Space remaining(m squared) I found that with the budget I was provided with I could afford to keep only 8 animals in my shelter. If I were to accommodate more animals than I already have it may mean I would have to go over budget. This would also result in me having less space for animals and the lions may end up getting less space than they should have to. Moreover, it would mean with more animals, I would need to employ more staff to take care of the animals as having an inadequate number of professionals would mean some lions may get less attention than they require. If I am to decrease the number of animals in my shelter that would mean I have lots of space still left to be used and the animal shelter would not require as much staff to be employed to take care of animals hence it would mean jobs to be cut down and there would still be part of the budget money left to be used. Cost Of Per Animal 80000 60000 Total Small Sized Adult Lions Big Sized Adult Lions Lion Cubs 40000 20000 0 Number Total Cost per animal Lion Cubs Big Sized Adult Lions Small Sized Adult Lions Total The medical cost of each type of animal approximately cost me under £14,000. This seems to be expensive but it will reimburse as we have to keep the animals in great condition to get them healthier and recover them with any sort of injuries and get them back to their home: the wildlife. The medical support will restore them and get them back on track. Medical Cost £45,000 £40,000 £35,000 £30,000 £25,000 £20,000 £15,000 £10,000 £5,000 £0 Lion Cubs Big Sized Adult Lions Small Sized Adult Lions Total Furthermore, the feeding cost equates to around £3300 annually for each animal. Lions tend to eat chicken, lamb, beef and pork and this is what we will provide in the animal shelter for the lions to eat. Prices Of Food £45.00 £40.00 £35.00 £30.00 £25.00 £20.00 £15.00 £10.00 £5.00 £0.00 Chicken per 5kg Lamb per 5kg Butchers Farmers Beef per 5kg Wholesale This graph is to indicate the different food variables which lions tend to eat and different places where I can purchase them from such as: Butchers, Farmers and Wholesalers at different prices in terms of every 5kg I buy. If I buy the food I give to the lions in my animal shelter from farmers it would mean that I would spend more on average on each type of meat: chicken, lamb and beef. However, buying from wholesale would mean I get food at competitively low and cheap prices but the quality may not be as good if I were to get it from professionals such as butchers who sell a variety of meat at good and economical prices. Hence, I would recommend an animal shelter to get its food from a butcher as they are professionals and the meat would be of good quality. Prices Of Toy Variable £3,000.00 £2,500.00 £2,000.00 £1,500.00 £1,000.00 £500.00 £0.00 Price Rope(220m) Tyre Adventure playground Ropes, tires and an adventure playground will be provided for the lions to play with. These toys have to be provided for the animals to enjoy their time and for entertainment when they aren’t sleeping or eating. Approximately £4000 will be spent on toys for lions to keep them happy as well as fit and healthy to keep them living longer and healing them with any past injuries which they may be recovering from. In order to keep the animal shelter hygienic, whatever the animals leave behind I decided to provide cleaners and other staff with litter scoops as it’s an efficient way to clean their waste and won’t be time consuming. The average cost of a litter scoop is roughly £14 which is quite cheap for keeping the shelter in a superior state and condition so animals don't catch diseases and die from them. Staff To Animal Ratio Staff Animals This Pie chart represents the ratio of staff to animals which I have employed and kept at the animal shelter. With my budget, I decided to employee 10 staff members with a ratio to animals to staff 5:4. If I increase the number of staff I employ it would mean that I have spent over my budget of £300,000. If I decrease the number of employers I have, then, that would impact on the ratio of animals to staff and it would result in the shelter not having the right number of professionals taking care of the animals. Thus, I recommend for a shelter to employ: 4 cleaners (£7 000 annually per person), 3 vets (£16 000 annually per person) 2 accountants (£20 000 annually per person) and 7 apprenticeships (£840 annually per person). This is because the shelter would remain within their budget and would not have to spend over the initial budget they are given to form the organization. The total cost for every staff members salary is £121 880, nearly half of the budget I had received to establish the animal shelter. Salary £50,000.00 £45,000.00 £40,000.00 £35,000.00 £30,000.00 £25,000.00 £20,000.00 £15,000.00 £10,000.00 £5,000.00 £0.00 Cleaners Vet Accountant Apprenticeship This chart highlights the staff I have, the amount of staff and the total salary given to the individuals.
