Jerry goes to his
basketball class. It is his
first day. He wants to
learn how to play
basketball. He meets
Luke.

“Basketball is hard,”
Luke tells Jerry.
“I can learn it,” Jerry
says. “I can, I can, I
can,” Jerry says to
himself.
Coach tells Jerry to
throw the ball.

Jerry throws the ball. He
does not make it.
“I will try again, Coach,”
Jerry says.
“I told you it is hard,”
Luke says to Jerry.

“I know I can do it. I
can, I can,” Jerry says to
himself again.
Jerry keeps trying. He
keeps throwing the ball.
Some balls go in the
hoop. “I did it! I did it!”
he says
to
himself.

“Wow! You are getting
good,” Luke says to
Jerry.
“How do you do that?” he
asks.
“I have a special secret,”
Jerry says.

“Can you share your
secret with me?” asks
Luke. “Then I will be
good at basketball. Just
like you!”
“Yes, I will. Just do what
I say,” says Jerry.
“No
problem.
I will do
it,” says
Luke.

Jerry tells him to say, “I
can, I can, I can.”
Luke says, “I can, I can, I
can.”

“You have to keep saying
it--even when the ball
does not go in. Just
keep saying it,” Jerry
tells Luke.
Luke keeps throwing the
ball. He says, “I can, I
can, I can.” Some balls
go in the hoop. He is
very happy. “I did it! I
did
it!”
I can! I can!

“You have the special
secret now, too,” Jerry
tells Luke.
Luke is very happy.
“What is the name of our
special secret?” he asks
Jerry.

“The Confidence Secret,”
says Jerry. “You can do
anything with the
Confidence Secret. Just
tell yourself, I can, I can,
I can.”
“I love the Confidence
Secret!” Luke tells Jerry.
Jerry gives Luke a high
five!
