3rd Annual DUC Charity Beach Tournament
The Charity Beach Tournament is only a few days away so here are the final details. I have decided to
increase the number of teams to 16. Hopefully there we can grab enough beach from the locals. The
tournament will support a local charity and other than paying for the prizes for the winning team, all
tournament fees will be donated. The games will start at 9:00 am sharp so if you play in the first game
make sure you aim to be there by 8:15 so that you can find parking and walk to the beach. Captains
meeting at 8:45. If anyone arrives early please feel free to help me set up the field lines. Last year they
worked well to keep regular beach users off of our fields. The year before we had a lot of people just
wander through our games not knowing we were playing, even though we had cones out. If I run out of
time I will just use cones, but I’m hoping enough people show up early enough to help me. By the way I
do have a permit and once we set up the fields we do have the right to that space. If there are any
problems please see me immediately.
Rules
 Basically the rules will be the same as regular ultimate except for the following exceptions:
 6 on 6 (4 males, 2 females)
 No foot blocks (Sand in the eye hurts too much)
 No half time (the games are only 30 minutes, choose your side carefully)
 10 yard brick

1-60 second time out, but cannot be used in the last 5 minutes. Loss of possesion if a team calls a second timeout.
 In order to speed play along teams can either do a quick cheer or just shake hands.
 Points are awarded as follows Win=3 pts, tie = 2 pts, loss = 1 pt
 When the time expires(horn blows), finish the point, if the game is tied it remains a tie. In the event
of teams being tied with the same number of total points the tie breaker will be settled as follows:
Head to Head record, Most Wins, Points against, points for, Flip a disc
Directions: (Assuming you are coming from the West)
The best thing to do is google map the cobourg Beach but here are some directions
Take the 401 to Hwy 45 in Cobourg (it is the second exit and is called Division Street) and head south.
Once you hit King street you are pretty much there. Just head a couple more blocks South and you will
see the beach. We will be playing at the far East end of the Beach so you want to try and park
somewhere over there
Parking:
There is all sorts of parking. The best option is to just pay for the day which I think is $8. Free parking is
located a few blocks away from the beach on some of the side streets. As you move closer to the beach it
becomes meter parking, which probably isn’t a good option, although since it is Saturday you may not
have to pay for the meters. There are also free lots where you can only park for 2 or 3 hours so make
sure you don’t pick one of these. The beach and the parking lots will be very busy by mid morning.
What to bring:
2 different coloured shirts for your team to wear
Discs
beach chair
hat
Sunscreen
towel
sunglasses
Water bottle
snacks
camera
big umbrellas
money for lunch
Other Things Available at the Beach




Beach Hut – that sells burgers, fries etc (could be a big lineup)
There is a water spout on the west side of the hut that can be used to fill up water bottles
Water Park for kids (try to stay out of here unless you have children)
Playground for kids, Washrooms at beach Hut and several small restaurants nearby, (no fast food)

3rd Annual Storm the Beach Charity Ultimate Tournament

Each team will have 3 preliminary games within their pool. The top two teams from each pool will make it into the championship round and the bottom 2 will go into the
consolation round. After the first three games the teams will be ranked from 1 to 16 to determine who they play in their next game. When ranking teams the order of the teams
may be changed so that teams do not play against teams from their initial pool.

All teams will play 5 games and the top 4 teams will play 6. (Oh and the top 2 in the consolation round will also play 6)
 Teams should do their post game cheers off of the fields unless they are quick.
 Captains must report their score to the scorer’s table immediately following their game. Points are awarded as follows: Win - 3 pts, tie – 2 pts, loss – 1 pt as long as you
report the score, loss – 0 points if you do not report the score before your next game.
 All games will be 30 minutes in length with no half times. If games start late then they will be shorter in length.
 Preliminary games end on the horn. Whatever the score is when the whistle blows is the final score. Even if it is a tie. This rule changes for playoffs.
 During the ¼ finals, Semi-finals and Finals when the horn blows to end the game finish the point. If this point results in a tie, play one more point.
 6 on 6 (2 females and 4 males – If a team chooses to play 3 females the other team does not have to match)
 One 60 second time-out is allowed per game but not in last 5 mins. Please stay on field. Calling a 2 nd timeout is a turn over.
 Foot Blocks are not allowed (Sand in the eye hurts too much),
 Bricks are 10 yards.
Have fun and always maintain the Spirit of the Game!
 All other Regular UPA (11th Edition) rules are used
 The lines are out. In the case of a heavy wind and the tape being severely curved use the cones as your reference for in and out.
 Tie-breakers: head to head , most wins, , points against, most points for and flip a disc.
 Please remember that this tournament is just for fun and all proceeds go to Charity!!
 Field are numbered from the east towards the west with Field 1 being the farthest east.
