One AFM Game Plan Empowerment
Briefing Document
1. Welcome. Welcome and thank you for agreeing to act as a group facilitator for the next two
days of empowerment. The purpose of this briefing session is to give you a short background of
the One AFM Game Plan and to provide training on how the One AFM Game works.
2. Background to the One AFM Game Plan. The One AFM Game Plan is a solution to our current
strategic challenges. Although the AFM has a strategy or plan, not all regions and assemblies are
aligned with it. The One AFM Game Plan will help our church to re-focus on our missional calling
and also translate that calling into activities we can implement in our assemblies. The main
driving force behind the One AFM Game Plan is the need for unity in the AFM – one church
following one plan.
3. Levels of the One AFM Game Plan. The One AFM Game Plan is implemented on all levels of the
AFM. It is already implemented on NOB, NLF and Regional/Network Committee level. As a
Committee we went through the exact empowerment we will be facilitating today for our
region.
4. Objectives. The objective of the following two days is to get the buy-in of our pastors and
governing bodies and to equip and train them in the use of a tool that they can take back to
their assemblies – with the objective to align their assemblies activities with the missional calling
of our church.
5. Tool. The One AFM Board Game. And the purpose of this briefing session is to shortly explain to
our group facilitators how this Game works.
Today the Board Game is played by pastors and members of their governing bodies.
A maximum of 15 people can play the Game.
The goal of the Game: To translate the AFM’s calling into practical activities.
Contents of the Game Box:
 A0 folded brainstorming map. [That you will be writing on.]
 A pack of playing cards. [That you will read aloud to your group.]
 A coach badge. [You will act as the Coach of the team.]
 Player arm bands. [You need to hand this out to all group members.]
 Set of pens. [You can appoint a member in your group that will be responsible
for writing the feedback.]
 Mini-flag & flag holder. [For use at specific points in the Board Game.]
The Playing Cards will guide you in the game and will give you step-by-step instructions on
what to do next.
Let’s have a closer look at the brainstorming map. Here you will see that for every AFM focus
area your group will give their input regarding the following:
DEFINITION. The right definition of the term.
APPLICATION. At present what is happening in your assembly that is in line with this term.
ROLE. Compare the ideal definition with what is actually happening in your assembly. Can
you identify the gaps? These gaps now become the responsibility of the Pastor and his/her
leadership team.
6. Committee Members. The Committee Members will move around during the discussions and
assist where needed.
7. Proceed to Opening Ceremony. We can all now proceed to the official opening ceremony.
