To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Hugo Lambrechts Music

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre, we are hosting a once-off music
competition. The competition invites applications from school going musicians nationwide, for any
orchestral instrument and piano, to participate.
CATEGORIES
There are two competition categories:
JUNIOR SECTION (up to and including Grade 7 school level)
The minimum standard required is Grade 4 of UNISA/ABRSM/Trinity
SENIOR SECTION (up to and including Grade 12 school level)
The minimum standard required is Grade 7 of UNISA/ABRSM/Trinity
COMPETITION ROUNDS
Round 1 - Audition: DVD or YouTube video
Junior Section: At least two works from different style periods of which one must be either a
Baroque or a Classical work, to be performed.
The same repertoire to be performed in the final round.
Duration: 8-12 minutes
Senior Section: At least three works from different style periods of which one must be either a
Baroque or a Classical work, to be performed.
The same repertoire to be performed in the final round.
Duration: 12-18 minutes
Round 2 -
Final:
Eight finalists will be chosen for the Junior Section and eight finalists will be
chosen for the Senior Section.
VENUE AND DATES - JUNIOR SECTION
The eight finalists from the Junior Section will perform in the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium on Thursday 9
June 2016 at 19:00. The prize-giving ceremony will take place after the concert on Thursday 9 June 2016.
VENUE AND DATES – SENIOR SECTION
The eight finalists from the Senior Section will perform in the Hugo Lambrechts Auditorium on Friday 10
June 2016 at 19:00. The prize-giving ceremony will take place after the concert on Friday 10 June 2016.
ADJUDICATORS
The decision of the adjudicators will be final. No reason will be given and no correspondence entered into
concerning their decision.

ENTRY PROCEDURE
Each applicant should submit the completed application form and DVD/Youtube video by Friday 15 April.
Successful finalists will be notified via email by Friday 29 April.

GENERAL









Each participant must use an separate entry form. Forms may be photocopied.
Entrants need not have passed grade exams, but must be able to perform at the level required for
their section.
Late entries will not be accepted.
Only transcriptions by recognized composers will be allowed.
No repeats in movements will be allowed. Da Capos should be played where applicable.
Performing with photocopies at the competition will not be allowed.
No recordings (audio or video) or photography will be allowed.
Practice facilities will be available to the contestants.
Participants must present three bound copies of their music for the adjudicators.
