Joy in Action Activities – Week One (Please choose one. Record

Day Four
What habits do you think keep you from having the life you really want?
What thought patterns tend to come up over and over in your mind?
Pray and ask God to show you one thing you can do to make a change in this area.
Read Philippians Chapter 4. Write down one scripture, phrase, word or observation that
immediately stands out to you. What comes to mind about it?
Day Five
What do you hope to learn from this study on Philippians and joy?
How would your life be different if you were filled with joy?
How do you think it would it affect the people around you? Be specific. (home, work, extended family, friend circles, volunteer organizations, social media, church)
Joy in Action Activities – Week One
(Please choose one. Record your observations in your journal.)
1. Look at the list of things that bring you joy from Day One. Do one of them this week.
2. Try Terri’s idea of using a box for your list from Day Three (your greatest concerns).
Write each of your deepest prayers (worries!) on pieces of paper. Pray over each one,
giving them to God, and place inside the box. This box will serve as a reminder that
you have given these to God and He’s already working.
3. Choose one Habit from Day 4 that you are willing to change during this study and put
it in action. (Examples: going to bed at a specific time; removing yourself from a toxic
relationship; cutting your consumption of something by at least half – social media,
alcohol, TV, spending, etc; spending more time with your spouse; choosing not to say
negative things.)
Don't let your happiness
depend on something that
you may lose.

Philippians—Week One Introduction
Each day this week, we’d like you to spend some time preparing your heart and mind to
study Philippians. Below are activities and scripture readings for five days. Record your answers and observations in your journal.
Joy in Action – Each week, you will be asked to choose at least one activity from a list you will
be given (this week’s list at the end of this note). The activities follow the scripture for the
week and are designed to help all of us find the joy we may be missing.
Day One –
What brings you joy? List as many things as you can.
Why do your favorites on the list bring you the most joy?
Read Philippians Chapter 1. Write down one scripture, phrase, word or observation that
immediately stands out to you. What comes to mind about it?
Day Two
What robs you of joy?
Why do you think they steal your joy?
Read Philippians Chapter 2. Write down one scripture, phrase, word or observation that
immediately stands out to you. What comes to mind about it?
Day Three
What are your biggest concerns? What keeps you up at night? What is most often on
your mind?
Why do they concern you most? What is the worst that may happen in each situation or
with each person?
Pray over each item, one by one, giving them to God, specifically for the next 10 weeks.
Read Philippians Chapter 3. Write down one scripture, phrase, word or observation that
immediately stands out to you. What comes to mind about it?
Don't let your happiness
depend on something that
you may lose.
