The framework of social science instruction offers pedagogical entry ways to learning processes in international encounters. To build upon children‘s experiences of heterogeneity, the already-present focus on „Inclusion“ in social science instruction can be expanded. Self-portrayals in Contact Situations Self-portryals are individual or collective action-processes through which children can usurp social realities or appropriate them. Children explore and test their abilities in playful selfportrayals. They formulate greetings, disguise, or quieting rituals that appropriate performative social realities and spaces. In the framework of these self-portrayals, children‘s group belonging, bodily expressions, and affirmations are created. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Bernd Wagner Erziehungswissenschaft/ Sachunterrichtsdidaktik 8 Mimetic Appropriations in Intercultural Contact Situations Jun.-Prof. Dr. Bernd Wagner Erziehungswissenschaft/ Sachunterrichtsdidaktik 9 Mimetic Learning The videoethnographic research supports the description of mimetic learning processes. Mimation is the ability to express oneself bodily in a replication of a form of cultural expression. The subjective perceptions of others are transformed into self-portrayal. Mimetic processes represent a movement-practice in which children set themselves actively in relation to other things in order to draw nearer to a likeness. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Bernd Wagner Erziehungswissenschaft/ Sachunterrichtsdidaktik 10 The Research Process The 12 participating researchers follow participating school classes over an extended period of time. Video ethnographic material from 4 seperate 1-week meetings of participating exchange groups are singled out here. This presentation represents a preliminary open encoding or evaluation of this video material. 11 Two Sequences from the Material 1. Finding crabs 2. Perspectives for Intercultural Learning School exchange programs enable primary school students to reflect on cultural diversity and plurality, building their world orientation. Views into the experience horizons of children in intercultural learning and the sensibility of moments of informal learning further the professionalisation of teaching. In student exchange situations, intercultural communication is very concretely experienced and is no longer an abstract, more general societal goal. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Bernd Wagner Erziehungswissenschaft/ Sachunterrichtsdidaktik 16 Professionalisation of Teachers The video material gathered in the study will be used to further develop educational materials for teaching staff and will be tested in cooperating schools. This material can be used for further teacher training regarding the intercultural learning processes of children. The gathered insights into the experience horizons of children in intercultural learning situations will enable students and teachers to align classwork with real-life experiences and examples. Jun.-Prof. Dr. Bernd Wagner Erziehungswissenschaft/ Sachunterrichtsdidaktik 17 Intercultural Education in Primary School Social Science Instruction Summary : A) Primary school social science instruction (Sachunterricht) fits well into the preparation for and review of student exchange programs and offers a didactic reflection about intercultural education. B) This creates the groundwork to anchor intercultural education longterm in the school day and in the social science curriculum. C) Primary school social science and its didactics strengthen the participation of children in institutions and broadens pedagogical entry points with heterogeneous groups of children.
