Wilton Manors Receives A Perfect Score in the Human Rights Campaign
Municipal Equality Index for the Second Year in a Row
Wilton Manors, Florida (December 22, 2015) – According to the Human
Rights Campaign 2015 Municipal Equality Index, for the second year in a
row, the City of Wilton Manors is perfect. The City was once again
recognized for being a leader in supporting equality and crafting city laws
and policies that treat gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals
the same as their heterosexual counterparts.
The Washington D.C.-based Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality
Index is a nationwide survey of 408 cities that evaluates local government
laws and policies that deal with issues such as domestic partnership
benefits and anti-discrimination laws on how inclusive they are of lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender people.
“The City of Wilton Manors has embraced its reputation as a destination
for the LGBT community and is proud of this recognition from the HRC,”
said Mayor Gary Resnick. “Wilton Manors has long been recognized as a
leader in supporting equality and benefiting from diversity with substantial
increases in property values and business investment, and this additional
recognition from the HRC only further bolsters the increasing growth in
tourism, business investment and new residents in our city.”
The scoring system for the 2015 Equality Index included several revisions
including eliminating relationship recognition as a criteria and weighing
non-discrimination, including in city employment, more heavily.
