THE NEWSLETTER FROM TAUNTON FABRICATIONS LTD
Welcome
After winning the West of England
Business of the Year Award a few
years ago I’m delighted to announce in
this special edition of FAB NEWS that
we’ve done it again by being named as
Somerset Business of the Year.
This is a fabulous achievement that has
been a real team effort in what have been
very challenging times for us all. There are
a number of factors behind our success,
some of which is the high level of standards
we operate to and the forward thinking
approach we adopt which you can also
read about in this edition.
I hope you have a relaxing Christmas
break and wish you every success for 2013.

WINTER UPDATE
SPECIAL EDITION
A WINNING TEAM
Despite a downturn in the construction sector over the last two years, business at
Taunton Fabrications over that period has increased by a massive 35% – this was just
one of the reasons that Taunton Fabrications was recently named as the 2012 Somerset
Business of the Year (6 – 50 employee category).
The awards, organised by Somerset
Chamber of Commerce, is one of
the most important and popular
fixtures in Somerset’s business
calendar. The event organisers
commented that the standard of
the entries this year had been
exceptional, whilst the
number of companies
entering was up by
20 per cent, proving
that the popularity
and prestige of the
Somerset Business
Awards continues
to increase year on year.
Managing Director,
Jason Rigby said,
“Measures taken
at the start of the
recession means that
Taunton Fabrications
now operates in a
completely different
way than it did
a few years ago.
This award shows that
those decisions were the
right ones but couldn’t
have been achieved
without the commitment
and dedication of the
whole team at Taunton
Fabrications.”
The 6-50 employee category was the most hotly contested with judges looking for a business that stands out from the crowd including ambition, profitability, growth, sound business planning, customer satisfaction and management of people – a company with a “Wow Factor” that is worth celebrating.
The award was sponsored
by EDF Energy and
presented by Chris Squires
(above right), Lead Supply
Chain Engagement Manager.

A HIGH LEVEL OF STANDARDS
Taunton Fabrications already operates to
the quality standard ISO 9001:2008 and the
environmental standard ISO 14001:2004 and
has now recently been awarded the ISO Health
& Safety standard – OHSAS 18001:2007.
“Because of the nature of our work we have
always held the highest regard for health & safety
issues and this standard really reinforces the
measures we take to keep our staff and others
safe from harm” said Commercial & Production
Director, David Phelps.
In his report, the auditor commented:
“A number of excellent practices were seen
especially relating to the Health & Safety system.
An encouraging aspect which demonstrated
the organisations commitment to H&S are the
arrangements that have been made to facilitate a
periodic visit by an Occupational Nurse”.
ARE YOU READY FOR NEW
EUROPEAN STANDARD?
A new European standard for the
CE marking of structural steelwork
comes into effect from 1 July 2014 –
as from that date all suppliers of
structural & architectural steelwork
must be CE marked compliant.
At Taunton Fabrications we are one
step ahead to ensure that we meet the new
standards well before the deadline and in
2013 will have the following systems in place:
• Factory Production Control (FPC)
System – a new standard (BS EN
1090-1) that defines the manufacturing
controls required to ensure that steel
components meet a range of clearly
defined technical requirements
• Welding Quality Management System
(WQMS) – a new fabrication standard
(BS EN 1090-2)
• Responsible Welding Coordinator
(RWC) – a fully trained in-house
competent person to control and
supervise welding activities
Are your steelwork suppliers and
sub-contractors ready for CE MARKING?
If not – after 1 July 2014 it will be illegal
to place fabricated steelwork products
on the market unless you are CE
MARKED compliant!
