A Woman’s role vs. Man’s role
In the average punjabi-sikh family, the woman has more
duties/responsibilities than the man. For example…
• She works 8-12 hour shift, and works another shift for the
family (making food, cleaning, washing dishes, etc.)
• She rarely gets recognized for her hard work.
• She has such strength that she keeps going, not thinking once
about herself, or her goals in life.
• She is devoted to her family’s needs, and always provides for
the family, not leaving them un-satisfied.
• She bears the larger family politics, gets abused from other
family members, taunted, etc. etc.
• What does she get in return? Society doesn’t think highly of
her, because she’s a woman.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
PIC
YOU CAN…
• For once, appreciate what she does for you and your family.
• If she can come home can do house work, you can also do it,
this counts everyone including the kids.
• Tell her thanks for all that she does for you once in a while,
even better if you buy her a gift.
• Talk to her about her hope/goals for the future.
• Defend her in situations where she can’t in the family.
• Don’t complain about the work she does, rather help her do it
better.
• More HELP she can get the better, whether it be chores
around the house, managing kids, or anything else, it all
depends on your family situation.

CONCLUSION:
Our community needs to acknowledge the role of
women in in the common household today, by
understanding the concept yourself, and educating others
about it, you can help build a better future for other
women and eventually reduce the number of domestic
violence cases in our community.
