THINGS YOU WOULD LIKE TO KNOW About your upcoming WEDDING As you approach the day of your wedding, there are many details to attend. The following list is provided to help you think about things which involve the wedding ceremony. Wedding Date and Time. Please reserve the date and time for your wedding ceremony on the church calendar and on the officiating pastor’s calendar. Please give the best phone number to reach you and an email address to the church office. Pre-Marriage Counseling. We desire for you to have a great marriage. Therefore, you may choose to meet with our Counseling Pastor Jerry Storm (or a Counselor of your choosing). Please contact Pastor Jerry to schedule as soon as you reserve your wedding date. Pastoral Meeting. At least two months prior to the wedding ceremony, please call the church office to arrange a time to meet with the officiating pastor to plan the ceremony. Wedding Music. If you wish to have someone from Good Shepherd help with music at your wedding, please contact Good Shepherd’s Director of Music, Lisa Langton, before meeting with the officiating pastor. Marriage License. It is suggested that you make AT GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH application for your license at least seven (7) days but no more than six months in advance to allow proper processing and legal waiting period. A wedding legally cannot be performed by the pastors without a marriage license. Rehearsal. The officiating pastor will meet your wedding party at the church at the time of the rehearsal. Wedding Flowers. You may contact a florist of your own choosing to provide any type of flowers. Unity Symbol. You may choose to use a unity symbol such as candles or sand. Good Shepherd provides stands but not the unity symbol. Flash Pictures and Video Recording of your wedding is allowed. Please refrain from alcohol throughout this sacred event. BASIC DESIGN OF A TRADITIONAL WEDDING Prelude Music Processional Greeting Normally provided by organist. During prelude music, wedding guests are seated including seating of the family of the wedding party. Entrance of the wedding party Inviting and acknowledging the presence of the Triune God. Reading(s) * Song Meditation Song Exchange of Vows (optional) Given by the pastor (optional) The active ingredient of the marriage service. Exchange of Rings The commitment ingredient of the marriage service. Prayer Calling on God to supply the newly married couple with the gifts they need for marriage. Song (optional) Unity Symbol (optional) Roses to Parents (optional) Benediction A final blessing in the Name of the Triune God. Pronouncement of Marriage Recessional Wedding party leaves. Postlude Music played during dismissal of wedding guests. This basic design is meant as an outline. It is not something that should restrict individual involvement or creativity. * READING. The selection of reading(s) is important for the worship service and for the wedding couple and guests. One way of involving more people in the worship is to ask if they might do a reading. The officiating pastor can provide readings from which to choose. Seating and Aisle Information. The seating capacity in the sanctuary of Good Shepherd is 350. The length of the sanctuary’s center aisle is 50 feet. There are 12 rows of pews in the center aisle. For a reception in Good Shepherd’s Fellowship Hall, the seated capacity is 200 people.
