Warm up activity #3
In pairs/1 ball.
Activity 1
Groups of 4/2 balls. 1
vs 1 with goal on one
side.
Activity 2
Groups of 4. As above,
2 vs 2. Start out with
one goal on one side,
then a goal on the
other side, finally two
goals at both sides.
15 x 20 yard grid with a goal on one side.
Players #1 move forward, players #2 move backward.
Player 1 passes the ball into player 2. Player 2 lays the
ball off. When you get to the 18-yard line switch
roles. Same organization for volley and header.
Players #1 dribble the ball forward, players #2 dribble
backward. Coaching points: Keep a 2-yard buffer, sit
low, slide backwards, good footwork. When you get
to the 18-yard line, switch roles.
Players #1 pass the ball into players #2. As the ball
travels to player #2, player #1 closes the space to
about a 2-yard buffer. Player #2 dribbles forward,
player #1 sits low, slides backwards, pivots,
concentrates on footwork and tries to keep the ball
in front of him. Switch roles after each 15-yard
dribble.
Player with ball passes the ball to the player in white.
After the pass, you play defense. Player in white
receives the ball and tries to score on the small goal.
By putting the ball on the side of the field you are
helping the defender. Force the ball to the right.
Close down one side of the field and allow the
attacker to dribble into the space where the goal is
not.
After each action players go back to their side. Rotate
after 3 minutes of play.
Progression: Switch the goal to the other side. Place
the goal in the middle. Which one is easier for the
defender?
Activity 3
5 vs 4 half field. Two
teams of 5 vs 4
defenders.
Half field. Four defenders + keeper. Four
minute games.
The four defenders (+ keeper) stay on the field for
four minutes. The two teams of 5 are attacking for
four minutes. The attacking team 1 begins and as
soon as they score or the ball is played out of play,
the attacking team 2 begins (while team 1 jogs off the
field). Non-stop action for the four defenders.
Coaching points: Good defensive fundamentals,
pressure, balance, cover, communication, shape, etc.
Variation: add two target players for the defenders to
play the ball into.
Activity 4
