RULE 6.WM “Classic Crossword” General Rules and Regulations
Basis and Purpose for Rule 6.WM CLASSIC CROSSWORD Game Number 440
The purpose for Rule 6.WM is to provide specific game details and requirements for Colorado
Lottery Game Number 440, “Classic Crossword”, such as numbers and sizes of prizes, the
manner of selecting and validating winning tickets and the allocation of total revenues, prizes and
costs. The statutory basis for Rule 6.WM is found in C.R.S. 24-35-208 (1)(a) and (2), 24-35-212
and 24-35-212.5.
6.WM.1 Purpose and Statutory Authority
These Rules and Regulations are adopted by the Colorado Lottery Commission governing the
establishment and operation of the Colorado Lottery pursuant to the authority provided by Part 2,
Article 35, Title 24, C.R.S. 24-35-208 (1)(a) and (2), 24-35-212 and 24-35-212.5, Rule 5 and
under such further instructions and directives as the Lottery Director may issue in furtherance
thereof.
6.WM.2 Definitions
In addition to the definitions provided by Rule 1 and Rule 5, and unless these Rules and
Regulations for Colorado Lottery Game Number 440 otherwise require, Play Symbols, Prize
Symbols, Legends, Identifiers, Play Symbol Captions, Prize Symbol Captions, and Retailer
Validation Codes are as set forth in Paragraph 6.WM.1.9 and Exhibits A through C of this Rule

6.WM.3 Determination of Instant
An instant prize-winner for Colorado Lottery Game Number 440 shall be determined as follows:
a.
The holder of a ticket on which all of the letters in three (3) complete words to fifteen (15)
complete words in the "Crossword Puzzle" portion of the ticket match letters in the "Your
18 Letters" and “Bonus Letters” portions of the ticket shall be entitled to the prize
indicated in the "Prize Key" legend corresponding to the number of complete words that
are matched.
b.
Players may only win one (1) time on a ticket in Colorado Lottery Game Number 440.
c.
In all events, the determination of prize winners shall be subject to the general ticket
validation requirements set forth in Paragraph 5.17 of Rule 5, Paragraph 6.WM.8, and all
of the specific requirements set out in the "Crossword Details" section on the back of the
ticket as set forth in Exhibit A.
6.WM.4 Claims Period and Payment of Prizes
All instant "cash" prizes must be claimed within 180 days after the announced end of the game.
a.
The holder of any $3, $4, $6, $9, $12, $18, $36 or $50 prize-winning ticket may take it to
any Lottery retailer location, mail it to Lottery Headquarters as provided on the ticket back
or deliver the ticket to any Lottery Claims Center for validation and subsequent payment.
The holder of any $100, $200 or $500 prize-winning ticket may mail it to Lottery
Headquarters or deliver the ticket to any Lottery Claims Center for validation and
subsequent payment. Lottery retailers, at their option, may accept $100, $200 or $500
prize-winning tickets for validation and payment.
b.
The holder of a $5,000 or $40,000 prize-winning ticket shall fill out a claim form and send
the completed form and the ticket to the Lottery for validation and payment pursuant to
instructions on the back of the ticket or deliver the ticket to any Lottery Claims Center for
validation and subsequent payment.
c.
Any "cash" prize from a winning ticket that is not claimed within the period specified
herein and in the manner specified on the back of each ticket shall remain the property of
the Lottery.
6.WM.5 Price of Tickets
The purchase price of each ticket for Colorado Lottery Game Number 440 shall be $3.00.
However, a licensed retailer may be permitted, upon prior approval of the Director, to make gifts
of tickets as a means of promoting the sale of goods or services to the public.
6.WM.6 Numbers and Sizes of Prizes
The numbers (plus or minus three percent [5% - 3%] based upon pool level) and sizes of instant
prizes are as set forth in Exhibit B attached to this Rule 6.WM and incorporated by reference as
though fully set forth herein. Overall probability of winning includes breakeven prizes and entries.
6.WM.7 Manner of Selecting Winning Tickets
a.
The winning of any cash prizes in the amounts set forth in Paragraph 6.WM.6 results
from ticket purchases by the public and removal by the ticket holder of the rub-off area
revealing a winning combination of play symbols as set forth in Paragraph 6.WM.3. In
addition, to be a valid instant cash winning ticket, all of the requirements of Paragraph
5.17 of Rule 5 and 6.WM.8 must be satisfied.
b.
Tickets with disputed ownership will not be entered into the drawing process. Rule 5.5,
"Ownership of Tickets," shall govern Lottery actions in all questions of ticket ownership.
6.WM.8 Ticket Validation Requirements
In addition to meeting all of the requirements in these Rules and Regulations, Paragraph 5.17 of
Rule 5, and those printed on the back of each ticket, to be a valid instant winning ticket, the
number and placement of Play Symbols on the ticket must conform precisely to those in Exhibit
A, Play Symbols, Fixed Symbols and Retailer Validation Codes must be present in their entirety
and must conform to those in Exhibit C attached to this Rule 6.WM and incorporated by reference
as though fully set forth herein.
6.WM.9 Play Symbols, Fixed Symbols and Retailer Validation Codes
Play Symbols, Fixed Symbols and Retailer Validation Codes are as set forth in Exhibit C attached
to this Rule 6.WM and incorporated by reference as though fully set forth herein.

OVERALL PROBABILITY INCLUDING BREAK-EVEN PRIZES 1 in 3.30
Claim winners up to and including $50 at any Lottery Retailer; winners up to and including $599 may be claimed at participating retailers or mail
signed ticket with your name and address to Colorado Lottery, PO Box 7, Pueblo, CO 81002-0007 for payment. Retailers have the option of
paying up to $599. Claim prizes of more than $599 by mailing signed ticket and filled out claim form obtainable at Lottery retailers to PO Box 7,
Pueblo, CO 81002-0007 or claim at a Lottery Office. Tickets must be received at the Lottery within 180 days of the announced end of game.
Ticket purchasers must be at least18 years old. All cash prizes not claimed within 180 days after end of game are forfeited. All tickets,
transactions and winners are subject to Lottery Rules and State Law. Tickets are void and not entitled to prize payment if they fail to meet
requirements of game rules or are irregular in any manner. Liability for a void ticket is limited to replacement of ticket or refund of retail sales
price. Availability of prizes subject to prior sale.

corresponding letters on the CROSSWORD PUZZLE. If you uncover at least 3 words and up to 12 words in PUZZLE 1, win the prize shown in
PUZZEL KEY 1. If you uncover at least 3 words and up to 15 words in the CROSSWORD PUZZLE, you win the prize indicated in the PRIZE
KEY.
Crossword details:

A word cannot be formed by linking letters diagonally, or by reading the letters from right to left or bottom to top.

Letters combined to form a complete word must appear in an unbroken horizontal or vertical sequence on the CROSSWORD PUZZLE

All complete WORDS must contain at least 3 letters and completely fill an entire WORD’S column or row

You must match all the letters within a possible WORD in order to form a complete WORDS. Words within a complete WORD such as
“A” or “CAN” within “CANDY” are not complete
WORDS since they do not contain at least 3 letters AND completely fill the entire
WORD’S column or row



Letters forming a word filling a complete word space can only be used to form one complete WORD (e.g. “BALL” and “GAME” within
‘BALLGAME” are considered only one complete world.
