RD51-WG7 2009-XI RD51 Test Beam 22.10 to 1.11.2009 Tentative setup Dates, constraints, notes • 9 available days (22 Oct to 1 Nov), maybe 10 if we get the 2nd of November • 5 gas lines • Max 100cm of uniform field inside the magnet • 5 groups, 2 inside magnet • Still lack of information, so this proposal is just a starting point for discussion 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 2 Tentative setup Goliath (2 Saclay groups) TPC CEA/DSM/IRFU/SEDI SUPER/LHC Date : 28/07/08 TS ? Bonn ? R-MM TS CERN beam Ref : 000 BOITE N° 1 HT HT Echelle : 1 Matiere : Alu Nbre : 1 Torérances génerales : H11 h11 js11 Casser les angles vifs 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 3 Tentative schedule • Mount all the setup the first day • Divide in 2 periods of 4 days, e.g.: – CERN and Saclay R-MM first period – Bonn and Saclay TPC second period • If we get an extra day, it can be used for low momenta beams that could need the dismounting of upstream detectors 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 4 Mechanics check-list • Bonn support: check minimum height • Goliath: check if Saclay TPC and R-MM can be enough close to use the uniform region of the magnetic field • Trieste: to be placed (not enough info) – If low X0 and enough space, downstream Bonn before magnet – Otherwise after all the others, but it will receive beam just when magnet is off (10% of the time when TPC is main user, 75% when R-MM). Moreover the removal of the dipole placed there must be checked 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 5 Gas: open problems Gas users • CERN table: – – – – MM tracker: GEM tracker: GEM to be tested: MM to be tested: • Bonn: GEM TPC: Ar/CF4/iso Ar/CO2 Ar/CO2 Ar/CO2 95/3/2 (*) 70/30 70/30 ? Ar/CO2 , He/CO2 70/30 • Inside Goliath: – R-MM – MM TPC Ar/CF4/iso Ar/iso 95/3/2 95/5 (FLAMMABLE) • Trieste (not enough info, just a guess!): Ar/methane (*) 50/50 (FLAMMABLE) maybe can be also adapted to the Ar/CO2 gas mixture of MM to be tested 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 7 Wished (but unrealistic) solution • An additional line will require: – – – – 42m of 6mm + 42m of 10mm ss pipes, about 700 CHF Cleaning cost Manpower cost (soldering expertise and autorization required) Tight time schedule: the only two available MD are from 14.9 17.9 and 5.10 8.10 • In this framework: – – – – – 2 lines for CERN table: Ar/CO2 70/30 all GEM, the other all MM 1 line for BONN: Ar/CO2 70/30 or He/CO2 70/30 1 for Saclay R-MM: Ar/isobutan 95/5 (flammable) 1 for Saclay TPC: Ar/CF4/isobutan 95/3/2 1 for Trieste: Ar/methane 50/50 (flammable) 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 8 Solution B: gas to main users • CERN, Saclay TPC, Trieste shift: – 3 lines for CERN table: the GEM mixture (Ar/CO2 70/30) will flush also BONN detector. – 1 line for Saclay TPC, passing also through R-MM – 1 line for Trieste • BONN, Saclay R-MM, Trieste shift: – – – – – 1 line for BONN 1 line to flush CERN table at least one of the trackers available 1 line for R-MM 1 line for Saclay TPC 1 line for Trieste 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 9 Solution C: if case of no TS • CERN, Saclay TPC shift: – 3 lines for CERN table: the GEM mixture (Ar/CO2 70/30) will flush also BONN detector. – 1 line for Saclay TPC – 1 line for Saclay R-MM • BONN, Saclay R-MM shift: – – – – 1 line for BONN 2 line to flush CERN table at least one of the trackers available 1 line for R-MM 1 line for Saclay TPC 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 10 Trigger and tracker Trackers • Available trackers: – MM, 3 stations, 0.25 mm pitch X-Y strips, 25x25 mm2 active area, Gassiplex readout – GEM, 3 stations, 0.4 mm pitch X-Y strips, 100x100 mm2 active area, working on APV and VFAT readout, used with Gassiplex – Analysis algorithm just started • Nobody asked for a tracker for this session, so we mount them on CERN table to complete DAQ, analysis, etc.. 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 12 Trigger devices • Devices available: – 3 scintillators, 100x100 mm2, 10 mm thick, PMT, fast & clean signals – 1 “finger”, 10x5 mm2, 10mm thick, a bit noisy – maybe other devices can be found • None of them can work in magnetic field!! • At the moment these four devices are mounted on CERN table 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 13 Additional infrastructure installation 1417 sept (N.B. The new date!) Cables to be added + + + + A set of 16 LEMO cables from CERN (so 32 lines total) 2 (or 3?) fiber pairs from Saclay R-MM 1 fiber pair from Saclay TPC 1 BNC cable from Saclay TPC (?) Wish list + (Flexible) Stainless gas lines from the gas panel in the experimental hall up to Goliath setup (at least 1 inlet and 1 outlet, ~15m each) (high priority for flammable gas!) + A set of BNC lines (at least 16) + A set of SHV cables 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 15 Common racks and electronics Racks in the experimental hall • Saclay R-MM: 1 NIM (+1 VME?) • Saclay TPC: none • CERN: 2 NIM + 1 VME • BONN: 1 NIM? 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 17 Racks in the barrack • Saclay R-MM and TPC: 1 NIM if no SY1527 for HV • CERN: 1 NIM for HV, counters and other modules for monitoring • BONN: none Maybe one or two common NIM crates are enough 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 18 SYx527 for HV and LV • BONN: 7 HV channels 2.5kV / 10µA 8 LV channels 5V / 1.5° • CERN: no HV (not available at e-pool) maybe LV (depending on FEE) • Saclay R-MM: 8 HV channel, 2nA resolution custom solution for LV • Saclay TPC: 2 HV channel? But 2nA resolution! 01/09/2009 M. Alfonsi - CERN 19
