The Next Move Chess Academy
Mission:

It is our intention to set the trend of making chess a sport in this country that can be
recognized as world class. Chess has for too long been undermined and underappreciated,
even though the benefits of this amazing game have been known for decades. Help us
change our students into not just better chess players at a world stage, but also serious
problems solvers in everyday life.
When:

Sundays and Saturdays if the demand becomes great enough. ( So please let us know if
you want it to run on Saturdays as well. Saturday classes will be the same class as on a
Sunday, but at least you can pick which one you would like to attend for that week. Note:
You can attend both classes if you’d like.
Where:

Claremont Chess Club ( Right across the Rondebosch Library)
Rating Categories: This Refers to the strength of students








Beginners – 500 ( These are for those complete beginners or even the ones that barely
know how to move the pieces), 12 Weeks
500 – 1000 ( These students know a few things like Fools mate and exactly how the
pieces move and so on), 12 Weeks
1000 – 1200 ( Knows a few mating patterns, Basic tactics and opening rules), 20 Weeks
1200 – 1400 ( Knows more tactics, knows basic openings, knows very basic
middlegames and a few endgames), 28 Weeks
1400 – 1600 ( Knows more on endgames and openings and middlegame strategy and
history), Unspecified
1600+ ( If your rating is higher than 1600 then this is for you), Unspecified
Grown-ups (Here we want to introduce a group for parents and other over 18 students.
This group will be learning the same things but in this class we can up the pace
dramatically.
Note this class will only be held as soon as we have enough interest and in we do not
have any problem with an adult joining any of the other classes as stipulated above.
Note: In most cases we will just use student’s actual ratings from the chessa website, but in some
cases we will decide where kids will be better placed. If you have any questions regarding this
matter please do not hesitate to contact Laura or Stanleigh
Times: These times will be the same for Saturdays and Sundays






Beginners – 500 = 9am to 11am ( Laura or Stanleigh)
500 – 1000 = 9am to 11am ( Laura or Stanleigh)
1000 – 1200 = 11am to 1pm ( Laura or Stanleigh)
1200 – 1400 = 11am to 1pm ( Laura or Stanleigh)
1400 – 1600 = 1:30pm to 3:30pm ( Laura or Stanleigh)
1600+ = 1:30pm to 3:30pm ( Laura or Stanleigh)
Evaluations and Testing:



At the end of every month (January excluded) there will be an evaluation to see how
students are doing in their current courses.
At the end of every rating category there will be a test in order to pass to the next level.
Note: if you complete a rating category and do not pass the test, you will have to stay in
that category for at least another 4 weeks. At which point you can take the test again at an
extra R50 per test per student.
Prices:





R600 per month (4 weeks). This works out to be R75 per hour of coaching.
R100 discount will be given to active tournament players as we obviously want to
encourage students to play tournaments.
These fees will also include free monthly evaluations and free testing of students at the
end of each rating category.
Should you choose not to have classes every week but would like to attend a class of your
specific choosing on any given week; it will cost you R200 for that 2hour lecture.
As soon as the website is operational there will be a member1s login only where extra
homework and material will be available to specific students of specific rating groups.
Also a profile tab will be available where we want to have a photo and profile on all our
students.
