Franklin Pierce’s Johannah Leedham Garners Player of the Year Honors
- Bentley’s Brennan Named Freshman of the Year; Assumption’s Floyd Received Defensive Player of the Year Honors;
Stonehill’s Brown Received Coach of the Year Accolades -
South Easton, Mass. – Franklin Pierce University’s Johannah Leedham (Ellesmere Port, England) was
named the 2007-2008 Northeast-10 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.
Leedham joined elite company in becoming the fourth sophomore in Northeast-10 history to win Player
of the Year honors. She joins the likes of Alison Fay of Bentley College (1981-1982), Joy Barry of
Assumption College (1990-1991) and the last sophomore to garner the award, Lauren Fuller of Bentley
(1999-2000).
Last season’s freshman of the year, Leedham leads the Northeast-10 in scoring with 22.0 points per game
and in steals with 3.39 per. She is ranked fifth and 13th respectively in both categories among the Division
II leaders. Leedham also ranks in the top ten in the conference in field goal percentage (.479), assists
(4.04), free throw percentage (.826), three-point shooting percentage (.373) and is ranked 12th in
rebounding (6.6). In addition she was named to the All NE-10 First-Team for the second straight year.
Assumption’s Charde Floyd (Worcester, Mass.) was named the Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the
Year. Floyd is the first women’s basketball player to win the award at Assumption. Floyd helped anchor
a defense that has held opponents to under 60 points a game (59.0) and a shooting percentage of just .367
which is sixth best in the conference. She currently leads the NE-10 and is among Division II leaders with
9.66 total rebounds per game. Floyd also leads the conference in defensive rebounds (6.88) and is third in
steals (2.77). On the offensive side of the ball, Floyd is ranked third in the conference in shooting
percentage (.518) and is averaging 9.1 points per game. In addition, Floyd was named to the All
Northeast-10 Second-Team.
Bentley’s Kim Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y.) was selected as this season’s Northeast-10 Freshman of the
Year. Brennan is the first Falcon to win the award since Lauren Fuller did in 1998-1999. Scoring in
double figures in her first year of collegiate play, Brennan is ranked among the conference leaders in
points (10.2) and assists (3.18). She is also averaging 2.3 rebounds per game. In addition, she was named
to the Northeast-10 All Rookie team.
Stonehill College’s Trisha Brown received this year’s Coach of the Year award, the first of her career, after
guiding the Skyhawks to their first outright Northeast-10 Regular Season Title since the 1994-1995 season.
Stonehill finished conference play 19-3 and is currently 24-4 overall.
