CAMBRIDGE VOLLEYBALL CLUB AGM MEETING MINUTES Compiled by: Karen Souza DATE: 7:30pm 13 April 2013 LOCATION: The Red Bull MEMBERS PRESENT: (18) Karen Souza, Sarah Maplesdon, Sarah Heeson, Philip Game, Annemiek and Sijme-Jan Paardekooper, Frances Balaam, Karen Veitch, Shunsuke Tagami, Roberto Zanchi, Keith McAdam, Martina Pintani, Sorin Sbarnea, Massimo Lai, Jean Jacquet, Anna Protasio, Bronwyn MacInnis, Ellen Valdayeva APOLOGIES: Ursula Lowe, Valentina Ferrari, Remi Doue, Damiano Gallo, Celine Galvagnion, Anika Oellrich, Kelsey Piech, Cilla Pettitt, Claire Raisen, Lucia Corliano Start time: 8:05pm 1) Minutes from last year’s AGM approved (Motion – Sarah H, 2nd Karen V) 2) Team Reports: a. NVL men (Jean): Had an uncertain start to the season due to low numbers, but managed to recruit new players. Team had mixed levels and was short on key players but had strong outsides. Managed to keep things going and had a reasonable win ratio, finishing 4th in the league, thus meeting Phil’s goal. Phil agreed to continue coaching next season. b. NVL women (Anna): Had a good start to the season but many players were here short-term. Team became unstable with no core group, and with having to adjust to a new setter and losing their coach mid-season, only managed 2 wins in all. Next season is looking more promising, with 4-5 returning players and new coach Keith McAdam in place. c. County women (Sarah M): Had a good season overall. 15 squad and good attendance to training each week. Few new players who played more than one position which was useful. Attack and communication on court improved, but defense still needs work. Main competition was AF and Rhinos. Placed 3rd (out of 10?) in EVF. Big thanks to Massimo for coaching this year. Seeking new coach for next season (Jean mentioned someone from ARU and will liaise with Ursula). d. Beginners (Phil): Successful overall. Over 78 attended throughout the season, averaging around 25 ppl per session. Very mixed group, but looks like there may be enough to field a County men’s squad next season. This would be useful to free up the beginners session and maybe even introduce a Juniors team. Will need help again with organisation. 3) Awards presented by Phil: NVL men: Sijme-Jan NVL women: Anna County women: Ursula Most consistent beginner: Shunsuke Tagami Chairman’s Cup: Sarah Heeson 4) Treasurer’s Report: All teams ended in the +, apart from beginners (but very minor loss of £19). Current account in very good standing at over £7000. Still money to go out, but will end with a profit of around £2000 (approved by Karen S, 2nd Phil). 5) Chairman’s Report: Current financial status is positive, but unusual as this is a non-profit Club, but this means a little more money to invest in equipment etc next season. Plan is to continue running all teams and also reinstate the County men’s team next year. Goal is for the “Club to win all round next year,” but this will require effort from all members. 6) Current committee dissolved. 7) Election of new committee. Nominations (proposed/seconded): Chair: Philip Game (Sarah H, Frances) Vice Chair: Bronwyn MacInnis (Anna P, Sarah M) Treasurer: Sarah Heeson (Karen S, Anna P) Club Secretary: Karen Veitch (Sarah M, Frances) Fixtures: Frances Balaam (Karen V, Phil) Social Secretary: Ellen (Sarah M, Frances) Website/Publicity: Sarah M (Phil, Ellen) Team Reps appointed: NVL men: Jean to be point of contact with VE for the time being NVL women: Anna and Bronwyn County women: Ursula Lowe County men: Roberto Zanchi Coaches: NVL men: Philip Game NVL women: Keith McAdam NVL women: TBA NVL men: TBA 8) Summer Tournament Date now set for 17/18 August. Venue cost reduced substantially (£700). Allocation of jobs etc will be passed on in due course. Need to encourage Club members to volunteer to help out. Tournament Committee elected: Jon Clarke Jean Jacquet Sarah Heeson Karen Veitch Frances Balaam Bronwyn MacInnis Massimo Lai Ellen Valdayeva (Phil will not be on the Tournament Committee, but plans to attend meetings.) New Committee will arrange to meet asap. 9) Any other business Frances devised a solution for the ongoing problem of the grub screws for the nets (pouches will be affixed to the nets containing the screws). Padlocks for the cupboards will need replacing. End: 9:10pm
