Connecting with Queensland Urban Utilities

WATER APPROVAL PROCESS
OVERVIEW
Connecting with Queensland Urban Utilities
Who does
this apply to?
This Fact Sheet applies to
anyone wanting to understand
the new Water Approval
Process or wanting to make a
connection, disconnection or
alteration to Queensland Urban
Utilities’ water and sewerage
networks after 1 July 2014.
The new Water Approval Process
From 1 July 2014, Queensland Urban Utilities is responsible for receiving, assessing, providing advice
and approving applications for the connection, disconnection and alteration to our water and sewerage
networks, instead of the Councils within our service territory (called the “Water Approval Process”).
This change has resulted from the Water Supply Service
Legislation Amendment Act 2014 recently passed by the
Queensland Parliament (also called the “Utility Model”).
This new arrangement is intended to streamline the
approval process for water and sewerage connections.
Queensland Urban Utilities will continue to focus on
ensuring that the changes to the approval process
required by the new legislation are as seamless as possible
for our customers.
We have prepared a suite of Fact Sheets to explain the
process for new applications from 1 July 2014 and also
to inform those customers who have development
applications already lodged with their local Council about
what to do during the transition period.
