Jasmin Taylor Press Release 07MAY14

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Jasmin Taylor makes history for Great Britain with first ever FIS Telemark World
Cup podium
LONDON: Tuesday, 07 May 2014
Two-time British Champion and 2013 French National Cup Champion Jasmin Taylor, became the first ever Briton to
podium on the FIS (International Ski Federation) Telemark World Cup in the Austrian resort of Hintertux. Finishing in
2nd place behind the Swiss World Champion Amélie Reymond, Taylor finished the 2013/14 World Cup season in
seventh position.
Unfortunately in March Jasmin’s season was cut short when she crashed out during training for the Junior World
Championships, damaging the MCL (medial collateral ligament) in her knee.
Determined to return to the podium, Jasmin has since been following a strict strength and conditioning programme
since her injury and is feeling optimistic ahead of a busy summer of dry-land training. Jasmin commented, “Since I
returned from France, back in April, I’ve been working harder than ever to regain my strength so I can get back in the
gym as soon as possible. I was absolutely devastated I wasn’t able to go to Norway for the Junior World Champs
however it has given me a new focus for next season”.
In June Jasmin will start working with UK’s leading sports psychologist, Dr Emmanouil Georgiadis at the University
Campus Suffolk alongside regular training bio-mechanist Dan Donnelly.
Jasmin will also continue to inspire the next generation of British athletes through her work as an ambassador to
winter sports charity Snow-Camp and regional organisation Suffolk Sport. Throughout the summer Jasmin will give a
series of informal talks to schools in the Suffolk area, aimed at raising the profile of snowsports in the UK and
promoting the benefits of exercise and healthy eating to young people.
Next winter the FIS Telemark World Cup will to start in November, continuing through to April with the World
Championships scheduled to take place in Colorado, USA.

NOTES TO EDITOR
Telemark skiing originated in Norway and is considered by many to be the original and purest form of skiing. Racing is very similar
to conventional downhill skiing and involves going through a number of gates with red and blue flags. Where telemark varies is the
way in which the athlete has the extra challenge of negotiating a large jump half way down the slalom course as well as a crosscountry skating section towards the end of the course to really test the competitor’s endurance.
Jasmin Taylor, 20, has been a member of the British Telemark Ski Team since 2011. Jasmin lives and trains in Ipswich (Suffolk)
during the summer months and competes on the FIS Telemark World Cup circuit from December through to May. Jasmin is
sponsored by: Trowers & Hamlins, Landwood Group, TDS Safeguard, Skiers Trust, Ladies Ski Club and Laser-Life.
