As part of the continuing drive to create a modern, person centred and sustainable social care system
we are adding pace into improving opportunities for people with learning disabilities. This includes
undertaking a number of adult social care reviews to ensure we are able to commission more
appropriate care and support leading to a wider development of care, support and housing options.
This work will focus on embedding a progression based model and community focused approaches to
enable people to be part of their communities and have access to the same opportunities as anyone
else. This will include moving away from traditional models of care, for example residential care, and
enabling people currently placed outside of Somerset to return where appropriate to do so.
You may or may not be currently working within adults or learning disabilities; the right values,
determination and desire to make a difference are more important.
The work will be time limited under the transformation project. The secondments are expected to last
for up to 12 months after which you would return to your current role. It has been agreed that
operational roles will be backfilled within the service.

You will be essential to the system-wide redesign of the way we support people with learning
disabilities. You will be supported to lead the way by championing this approach with individuals, the
significant people in their lives, providers and colleagues. In return there will be ongoing support and
the real opportunity to shape the way we work.

opportunities to influence and shape mental health social care in Somerset and to test innovative
approaches. Central to our approach is actively reducing bureaucracy in order to release time for direct
work with people. The teams are co-located with community mental health and crisis teams and are
actively working to engage with local communities and community organisations. The service works
with adults with no upper age limit and young people transitioning to adult services.
Posts are available in all the locality teams in Wells, Yeovil, Taunton and Bridgwater and the AMHP
Hub where AMHPs focus on Mental Health Act work. Practising AMHPs are particularly encouraged to

Independent Support is a national programme commissioned by the Department of Education through
the National Children’s Bureau to support parent carers, children and young people through the Special
Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) reforms within the Children and Families Act 2014.
Somerset SENDIAS Service provides impartial information, advice and support to parent carers and
young people (up to the age of 25) about matters relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
(SEND).
We are recruiting a full-time post on a one year contract to provide impartial individual support to parent
carers and young people with SEND who are requesting an Education, Health and Care (EHC)
Assessment or transferring from a Statement to an EHC Plan.
You will also carry out a development project to raise awareness of young people about the SEND
Reforms within the Children and Families Act 2014. This will involve making and developing links with
the Young People’s Participation Team within Somerset County Council, Careers South West, schools,
colleges, community groups and Children’s and Adult Services.
You will be based at the Holway Centre in Taunton but will be required to travel around the county
during working hours (between the hours of 8am-5pm). Some weekend and evening work may be
required.

Required to start as soon as possible, an experienced and enthusiastic individual to work as our Return
to Learn Supervisor working with high tariff behaviour students in our Return to Learn Base. You will
have experience of working with young people preferably in an education setting. You will be calm with

the ability to be firm and patient and have excellent written, numeracy and oral communication skills.
You will have experience of and a qualification in counselling.

Required to start in September 2017, an experienced and enthusiastic individual to work as a Return to
Learn Assistant working with high tariff behaviour students in our Return to Learn Base. You will have
experience of working with young people preferably in an education setting. You will be calm with the
ability to be firm and patient and have excellent written, numeracy and oral communication skills. You
will working under the direction of the Return to Learn Supervisor supporting and preparing these
students for their return to mainstream school.

authority planning environment and is a member of the RTPI to deal with major development proposals
and support the Group Manager – Planning and Growth Services with the management and delivery of
a customer focused planning service.
You will need to demonstrate significant experience of working on major development proposals, an
extensive knowledge of planning policy, legislation and procedure, and an ability to manage individual
and team performance to achieve continuous improvements to service delivery.
