Pre-Season Conference Call
The conference coaches for each sport will meet prior to the season. The sport liaison will announce and arrange for a preseason conference call.

NEWMAC sponsored sports must adhere to their governing body's rules and regulations regarding artificial noisemakers.

Scheduling Procedures
Completed Game/Halted Game Procedure
During the regular season, it shall be a regulation game if called by the umpire at anytime after five innings have been
completed or after 4 ½ innings if the home team is ahead. If a game is called after the sixth inning has started, the
score shall be that of the last equal inning played. If a game is called prior to completion of a regulation game, the
halted game rule shall be in effect.

During tournament play, if there is a suspension, the game must be completed on the next available day as per NCAA
Championship guidelines.

The tie-breaker rule (8th inning) and the 8-run rule should be in effect during the regular season and the tournament.

Score Reporting
Spring sports reporting begins the second Monday in March. Standings only reports may be released prior to the first reporting
date if deemed necessary by the conference publicist. The publicist will select the Players/Pitchers of the week.
Officials
Two person umpiring crews will be used for all regular season games.
Championship Information
The Conference Champion is the team who wins the championship tournament. If the tournament cannot be completed prior to
AQ selection, the highest seed from the regular season will be declared the Conference Champion.
General
The NEWMAC will follow the NCAA Championship rules regarding equipment, ball, and the determination of home team
except host institution will retain their regular season dugout. (Adopted: 05/25/05 effective 9/01/05)

No team should play more than 3 games in one day during the NEWMAC Tournament. (Adopted: 05/25/05 effective 9/01/05)
Follow the NCAA Championship protocol for the determination of home team and define “finals” as starting with Game 5 of
our 6-team double elimination tournament.

Rescheduling Principles
If the conference tournament cannot be played on Saturday or Sunday, the schedule would be as follows:
 Monday, games 5 6, and 7 would be played at 4:30pm at the site of the highest seed
 Tuesday, games 8 and 9 would be played at 2:30 and 4:30pm at the site of the highest remaining seed
 Games 10 and 11 would be TBA

Tie-breaking Principles
When using common opponents to determine seedings, results from in-region play will be used prior to results from out of
region contests. When looking at common opponents use winning percentage to determine rankings.
Umpires
Three-person umpiring crews should be used for all NEWMAC tournament games. (Adopted: 05/24/05 effective 9/01/05)
NEWMAC will retain the services of the ECAC for the assignment of umpires for the conference tournament. If the ECAC is
not interested, NEWMAC will retain the services of the ECUA (East Coast Umpire Associates) for the assignment of umpires
for the tournament.

PR
Include “double-elimination” and appropriate game # when referring to Baseball and Softball tournaments in all PR material
(except the champion round)
