Church, the Shoe Box Project and many community members who
offered their support. As well we would like to thank the
Cole Harbour Woodside United Church for their ongoing support
providing diapers and formula and Dartmouth First Church of the
Nazarene for the donation of food for our Community Trading
Cupboard from their food drive in the community last month.
We would like to thank participants who have recently given us
feedback about the Centre. Over the past 2 months, many
participants have filled out a survey about their experience
at the Centre. This information tells us what is working well
and where we need to make changes.
We value your feedback and appreciate how thoughtful and honest everyone was with their responses.
Thank You

Family Literacy Day 2017
ABC Life Literacy Canada encourages families to “Learn at play, every day.”
Engaging in literacy activities as a family improves a child’s skills and also helps
adults keep their skills sharp. Literacy skills are life long skills, and developing
(and keeping them) can be fun. Here are a few ideas to get your family started
at home!
Grocery Hunt: Write a grocery list with your child and let them
find all the items in the store – a fun way to do the grocery
shopping! You can also use pictures from your grocery store flyers
to make the list.
Play and Tell: While children teach adults a new card game, adults share stories
from their own childhood and even play a card game from when they were a kid.
Home Restaurant: Spice up mealtime and have your child
create a menu by drawing food items or using grocery store
flyers – kids can take orders too and help with the clean up!
Where's that Shape: Have a shapes scavenger hunt by taking turns
to find shapes indoors and outdoors. Then together make each shape
with your body – kids and adults work together.
Bowled Over: Make your own bowling game with 10 plastic cups and a tennis ball.
Set up your cups and roll the ball to knock down the cups. Together count how
many cups fall for each player, then how many cups in total fall for all players.
Animal Dance: With children and adults in a circle, each person
takes turns to move like an animal and say what they’re doing: “I
hop like a bunny,” or “I stomp like a dinosaur.” After everyone has
had their turn, start at the beginning again and this time together do the moves and say what you’re doing.

The Centre will be closed when HRM schools are cancelled due to
bad weather. If the weather is poor please check the Halifax
Regional School Board Website, listen to the radio for a list of
cancellations, or call ahead to make sure we are open before you
venture out. You can also check the Centre’s Facebook page and
we will post closure information there.
Join us Mondays from 5:30-6:30 for a family /children's supper. If
you have children who are school-aged or younger, this is a great time
to enjoy a night out with the kids and not have to cook. Be sure to
check the Centre’s Facebook page as the meal being served will be
posted there!
