2014 Brunswick County Relay for Life Schedule of Events 8:00 Set-up begins! Be sure to sign up for your entry time. 8:00-4:00 Set-up by staggered entry time. 4:30 Survivor Registration begins. This is only a start time! If you are a survivor who may not be able to sit or stand for a while, you may choose to come closer to the event start time. We request that you arrive by 5:30 5:50 Survivor Group Photo 6:00 Opening Ceremony (Survivors seated in the bleachers closest to the school.) West Brunswick High School Color Guard Brunswick County School of Dance – Sondance Honorary Chair – Dr. Birgit Arb, Cape Fear Cancer Specialists 6:30 Survivor Lap-Survivors will take the first lap around the track as we celebrate them! Celebrate their victories, celebrate their fight, celebrate their life! 6:45 Caregiver Lap-Caregivers, please join your loved one for a lap around the track as we honor you for all that you do and the love that you have shown. 7:00 Team Spirit Lap-Bring out your team banner for a lap around the track! (Be creative, banners are judged as part of our Relay Spirit Award) 7:15 Kids Walk Events- All Kids Walk Participants gather at the stage for some fun events prior to our kids lap. 7:30-Kids Lap-Kids can make a difference in the fight against cancer too!! 7:30-The Allie McDowell Band will take the stage!! Let’s give it up for this Brunswick County native coming home, all the way from Nasville TN, for her debut concert! 8:00 “Cancer Awareness” Lap- Dress in the color of the cancer that you represent (for yourself or a loved one) This may include normal clothing, awareness ribbons, or something over-the-top creative! 8:00-8:30 Registration for the Womanless Beauty Pageant (at the activity tent by the stage). Contestants should check in to receive their contestant number. You may turn in any money that you have collected at this time. There is still time to raise money! You may turn in money up until 9:30 but you must check in between 8:00-8:30. 8:30 “Fight Like A Superhero”-Superhero Lap – In Memory of Tony Caison (last year’s Survivor Speaker) Dress up as your favorite Superhero or be creative and come up with your own Relay-themed superhero! 8:45 Pinwheel Lap – Shhhh!!!! Time to get ready for the luminary ceremony. 8:50 Caregiver Speaker- Shannon Caison 9:00 Luminary Ceremony-This is a ceremony in memory of all of our loved ones who have lost their battle with cancer, in honor of those that are still fighting, and in appreciation for the caregivers who remain by their side throughout the fight. Be prepared: the lights will go out! Please keep small children close by and remind your team members that this is a serious time and they should remain as quiet as possible. We ask that relayers stop walking and remain still on the track for this ceremony. 9:15 Silent Lap- In Memory – You may choose to carry or wear a picture of the one you Relay for, or simply walk a lap looking at the many luminaries that light the track thinking of all the ones that they represent. Take a minute to stop and remember/honor your loved one at their luminary. 9:30 Gloria’s “Pink Celebration Parade”” – This lap is in memory of Mrs. Gloria Childress. Gloria was a Relay Committee Member and dedicated several years to the Brunswick County Relay for Life. She wanted us to remember her with a celebration and of course, everything pink!! Your Relay Committee will provide pink glow sticks and balloons. Bring anything else pink that you can think of (baseball hats, bandannas, scarves, boas, noisemakers, etc) 9:30 Zuumba!! – Movement Works 9:35 Deadline to turn in money for the Womanless Beauty Pageant. All money raised by contestants must be turned in at this time to be totaled for the winner of $$$MISSMONEY$$$!!! 10:00 Womanless Beauty Pageant – This event is super fun! You don’t want to miss it! Come cheer on our “ladies” as they strut their stuff to win one of many crowns: Miss Money, Miss Congeniality, and Most Beautiful, just to name a few! 11:00 “Let’s Fight Cancer Together” Hollywood Family Themed Lap- Dress up your family or team members like any famous family from a movie, cartoon, or TV show (ex. The Flintstones, Adams Family, etc) 11:00 The Allie McDowell Band 12:00 Team Spirit/Advocacy Lap – Let us know you’re still here!! Bring out those team banners and create your own advocacy signs/posters (ex. Stop smoking, tanning bed use, healthy eating habits, cancer awareness facts, etc) 12:15 Minute to Win It 1:00 “Celebrate More Birthdays” Lap- Noisemakers, Birthday hats, streamers, balloons….anything to celebrate all the birthdays that we are saving this year! 1:15 Minute to Win It 2:00 “Cancer Doesn’t Sleep” Pajama Lap – Let’s see those PJs……..Are you still awake??? 2:15 Minute to Win It 3:00 “Give Cancer the Boot” County/Western Lap 3:15 Let’s Line dance! 3:30 Minute to Win It 4:00 Race for A Cure” – Racecar lap – Individually or as a team create a race car out of cardboard boxes and “drive” it around the track. 4:15 Bring your cars into the winners circle after a lap for a picture. (We are all winners!) 4:30 Minute to Win It 6:00 Sunrise Service 7:00 Fight Back/Closing Ceremony- Be present to Win one of Several Awards: Relay Spirit Award, Night Owl Award, Best Decorated Tent, etc. Thank you for Helping Us
