DISCIPLINE
1 - Discipline is something we do FOR the athletes, not TO them.
2 - It has to come from a culture of being a part of something bigger than
yourself – Our culture is the most important aspect we can cultivate! (giant
redwood concept).
3 - It starts with the little things…
Discipline – The Little things
1 – Be On time (15 min early)
2 - Standardized dress
3 - Clean Locker rooms (Home AND Away)
4 - Sense of urgency (movement)
5 - Controlling emotions
6 - Vertically aligned warm-ups (helps athletes transition)
7 - Consistent language between sports (break outs)
8 - Proper behavior in the classroom
9 - Respectful dialog with coaches & faculty

Parent Expectations
1 – LOVE and SUPPORT your athlete through everything!
2 – Coaches and Parents have the SAME GOAL: We want what is best for each kid!
3 – Withhold commentary of your athlete, game, or coaches. Tell your athlete this:
“It’s great to see you on the field!” Then let them talk….
4 - Off-Limit Conversations:
Open topics:
a – Other athletes
a – treatment of athlete
b – Play calling / Strategy
b – ways to improve athlete
c – Playing time
c – athlete’s behavior
d – Discussion directly following a game
Playing Time
1 - Playing time will be determined by the coaching staff.
2 - The coach’s first responsibility is to the team’s and the program’s success.
3 - Playing time at the sub-varsity levels will be spread out as evenly as possible.
4 - At varsity level, we will play the athletes that we feel give us the best chance to win.
- If your athlete is not a starter – IT IS NOT AN INDICATION OF YOU AS A PARENT!
- Talk with your athlete about embracing their role, and find ways to improve

• If you have a concern, talk to me or another coach about it. Anytime (except after a game).

• Start Conflict resolution at lowest level possible.
• Move up the Chain if resolution does not occur.

• Aug 8th: Football Officially starts 3:30 – 7:00 PM
• Aug 13th: Team Pictures and Scrimmage
• Aug 19th: Varsity Scrimmage at Vinton-Shellsburg HS
• Aug 21st: Team Potluck in Cafeteria 11:30 – 1:00
• Freshman – Utensils, Plates, Napkins
• Sophomores – Appetizer/Side Dish
• Varsity – Main Course
• Aug 26th: Season Starts….
Sign-Ups Volunteers
• Thursday Night Varsity Team Dinners: Need 3 Families per night for 6 nights.
• HC on Oct 7th Subway will sandwiches for the boys.
• Touchdown Club Parent Contacts:

• Away Game Meals – Must pay for your athlete to receive a meal
• Cost is $40 per athlete for the year, Subway will have a bag 1 Ft sub/chips/cookie for the boys on their road
