You are your baby’s first teacher and favourite toy.

Even very little babies enjoy books. When you cuddle up and
read to them you are not only showing them that reading is fun
and important but you are also bonding with them.
Small books with bright simple pictures make excellent first
books for babies.
BEFORE READING:
Introduce the concept of „peekaboo‟:
 Hide a cuddly toy under a little blanket, remove the
blanket and exclaim “Peekaboo!”
 Cover the toy again and use the words from the book to
ask “Where has the (name cuddly toy) gone?”
 Remove the blanket and say “peekaboo” again.
Look at the cover of the book and talk about how the little bear
is hiding just like your cuddly toy was.
Have fun touching the texture on the teddy bear.

Spend time talking about the pictures, especially if you can
make familiar connections, for example, “Look at the soft

When you are having fun with your baby you are helping
develop a strong bond between the two of you. Babies that
have a strong attachment with a loved one feel happy and
confident.
Babies love playing Peekaboo and it helps them get used to
you coming and going. Hide your face behind your hands and
ask “Where am I?” remove your hands and exclaim
“Peekaboo”.

Another fun game is to hold baby in front of a mirror and then
move to the side and ask “Where are you?” move back in front
of the mirror and say “Peekaboo”.
