University of Michigan National Pan-Hellenic Council

Dear Center for Campus Involvement Representative,
In an effort to bring our entire campus together, promote loyalty to our alma mater, and raise funds for
our endowment scholarship the student organization “National Pan Hellenic Council” is planning the
“Game Over” 20th Annual NPHC Step Show on Friday, April 4th at the University of Michigan Power
Center. The three main purposes of this event are to:
 To fire up students, faculty members, and community members as one community, through
step show and concert
 To highlight and celebrate The University of Michigan’s National Pan-Hellenic Council’s 20th
year in existence
 To fundraise between $15,000-20,000 for our endowment fund to provide students with
scholarships for supplies and housing.
There is a lot of energy and coordination going into this event to make it successful. We are reaching
out to many student organizations, and administrative offices to support our efforts. We are interested
in Center for Campus Involvement as one of our sponsors because of your prominent and recognizable
reputation on campus. We believe that our event could provide you with an opportunity to show your
loyalty to and support for our university and the diversity platform that we strive to achieve.

Proposal and Overview
National Pan-Hellenic Council History
The National Pan-Hellenic Council at the University of Michigan is a student organization that has been
established here at the University Michigan Ann-Arbor since 1994. The council is composed of nine traditional
pre-dominantly Afro-American fraternities and sororities (5 fraternities: Alpha Phi Alpha Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi
Inc., Omega Psi Phi Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Inc., Iota Phi Theta Inc. and 4 sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc., Delta
Sigma Theta Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Inc.). All of the organizations in the council were
founded on the premises of social justice, community organization, service, and philanthropy. Our goal is to
service the student body here at the University of Michigan, but also make an overall impact on the Washtenaw
County community as a whole.
2013-2014 Highlights
In the past year, our council has hosted social awareness, community service, and entertainment events in
order to promote campus unity. In September, our council brought in Dr. Lawrence Ross, the critically acclaimed
author of the infamous Greek novel “The Divine 9”. Ross was also a professor at UCLA, and has been traveling all
over the country publicly speaking on the impact of Greek Life on college campuses and in the community. Our
council has also hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk this past October, where we raised over $1,500 dollars
that went towards breast cancer research. This year, we have also adopted the SOS Homeless Shelter as our
charity for the entire year. We have hosted can drives, and are continuously hosting fundraisers (i.e. bakesales), in order to donate a lump sum to their foundation at the end of the academic school year.
Every year the National Pan Hellenic Council hosts the NPHC Step Show which serves as a medium for
organizations to perform but also serves as a fundraising avenue for the council. In retrospect, the NPHC Step
Show is our most notable showcase throughout the academic year and annual event where our goals are:

To raise cultural awareness of the minority community at the University of Michigan

To unify all of Greek Life and overall campus holistically

To fundraise for initiatives (scholarships, yearly adopted charities) to help improve the University of
Michigan student life and give back to the surrounding Washtenaw County area.
2014 NPHC Step Show
This year marks our 20th anniversary of the event. In January of 2014, an endowment fund was established
in order to distribute scholarships to the minority community here at the University of Michigan. The scholarship
will be used to provide students with financial assistance with academic supplies (books, supplies, computers)
and housing. Our goal is to fundraise between $15,000-20,000 for the scholarship fund, majority stemming
from proceeds off of the show.
Furthermore, we plan to use the revenue from this show to host a Campus Day where we will transport lowincome inner-city high school students to the University of Michigan in order to experience the University and
college as a whole in the spring. This year our goal is to give 125 high school students from the Metro Detroit
Area the opportunity to experience the University of Michigan atmosphere, on April 17, 2014.
Direct Impact
The National Pan-Hellenic Council is requesting funds from Center for Campus Involvement in order to help
with the production of the show as well as the cost of the artist. This donation will have a direct impact on the
community because it will allow us to produce a high quality show and add more value to the event. Our goal is
to raise $25,000 to give away in scholarship money. By partnering with Center for Campus Involvement, the
NPHC council will be catalyst to help potentially advance 50 students’ education through scholarship. Our
partnership can enhance the Washtenaw County awareness around topics of diversity and inclusion. In
conclusion, this donation will also help with publicity to reach more of our target audience earlier. This will
bring more people to the show, allowing us to fundraise more money for the scholarship fund, and build the
revenue in order to host the Campus Day on April 17, 2014.
* Attached are cover letter and sponsorship packet listing the levels of sponsorship as well as the benefits to the company.
Sponsor benefits
Becoming a sponsor for the 2014 University of Michigan 20th Annual NPHC Step Show is an
effective way to increase your company or brand’s visibility among a large population of
students. By donating, you will expose your organization to an estimated 1,700 students, the
5,000 Greek Life Community as well as the greater University of Michigan community of
undergraduates, faculty, and staff through campus and community wide advertisements.
The University of Michigan NPHC Step Show will provide you with the opportunity to reach
your target audience through:
 Social Media Advertising: Sponsorship will ensure that your logo and organization
name will be publically referenced to our Facebook group, twitter campaign, and other
forms of social media advertising.
 Signage and Logo Display: Sponsorship will allow you to have your logo displayed
prominently throughout our show and on all of our marketing materials and posters
around campus, as well as our brochure for the event.
 Verbal Recognition: Our emcee will publically acknowledge your support during our
show
 Student giveaway recognition: Sponsors have the opportunity to get their logo placed
on the student giveaway; approximately 750 t-shirts will be worn throughout campus,
on the day of the event as well as the 2014 Spring Fest on April 17th, 2014.

Proposed Budget
The following table summarizes our projected costs for the event. Our fundraising efforts
include: school funds, private donors, interest groups, and corporate sponsors. In order to
produce a high-quality show, we are hiring professional production company to provide the
necessary equipment and support for our event as well as the after concert. This poses one of
the major budget items, with the featured artist along with our intended giveaway. This year
we plan to purchase approximately 750 t-shirts in order to attract a large crowd for our event
as well as stimulate school spirit. Finally, our budget is driven by marketing costs. With every
extra dollar we raise, we will be able to tap into a larger base of prospective networks allowing
