CYFA Coaching Certification Process Step 1: Registration and Background Check The new registration system significantly enhances the experience for parents, players, and coaches. Registration is the gateway for the wealth of USA Football’s wealth of online resources including, but not limited to: coaching certification and education, team websites, player/parent pages, league and team management. Moreover, the system provides CYFA with a significantly more efficient way of providing the City of Coppell with required information to continue to use City facilities. CYFA has two seasons: Spring 7 on 7/Flag and Fall Flag/Tackle. Please ensure you select the correct season registration based on the following: A. If you plan to coach in both Spring and Fall seasons, select Spring 7 on 7/Flag‐Coaches Registration. In April, you’ll receive an email from CYFA to register as a coach for the fall. You will return to the registration page and select Fall‐Flag/Tackle‐Coaches registration. Most of the information on the form will populated with the information you provided for the spring registration. Under the Experience section of the form, please enter “Info provided in the spring” for the questions that require a brief answer. B. If you only plan to coach for the Fall season, select Fall Flag/Tackle Coaches Registration. Once you select the appropriate season registration, you’ll be instructed to create a new member username and password. This is a new system, so everyone is required to create a new username and password. Your username and password will allow you to access the wealth of resources that are and will be available through CYFA and USA Football. The only exception to creating a new member account is if you already have a USA Football login. Once you’re login is created follow the instructions and complete the coaching registration form in its entirety. CYFA Coaching Certification Process Continued Step 2: Required USA Football Certification Courses In order for CYFA to maintain its affiliation with USA Football, every head and assistant coach must complete the required online certification courses. Once your registration and background check are approved, you will receive an email with instructions on how to activate your USA Football membership under Coppell Youth Football Association (CYFA). The membership will grant you access to the required coaching certifications and other online resources. It’s important to note that you will use the same logon information that you created/used to register to sign‐in to USA Football. Once your logged on to USA Football, click on the “Coaches” tab. Once the page loads scroll to the middle of the page and under Education & Courses section. Every head and assistant must complete a minimum of two online certification courses in order to be considered for a coaching position. The required courses are: i. Tackle or Flag Certification Course ii. Respective Division Certification Course: i.e. 6U, 8U, 10U or 12U course. Step 3: Coaching Staff Interview After successfully registering, CYFA receiving a favorable background check, and successfully completing the certification courses, the head and assistant coaches will be scheduled for a coaching staff interview with CYFA’s Coaching Committee in late March. During the interview committee members will inquire about your background, football experience (coaching and/or playing), coaching philosophy, parent/player relationships, your strengths and areas of improvement as a coach and staff. 2 CYFA Coaching Certification Process Continued Step 4: Coaching Clinic and Tackle Camp After successfully completing Steps 1‐3, coaches are required to participate in a coaching clinic that will focus on parent/player relationships, practice planning, and division appropriate offense and defensive schemes. Coaches will be required to put into practice what was learned in the certification courses and clinic during CYFA’s tackle camp. Coaches must commit to one evening during tackle camp to engage players and parents in their respective division. The 2012 Tackle Camp will take place from Wednesday, August 1st to Saturday, August 4th . Wednesday through Friday, camp is from 7:00‐8:30, and on Saturday, from 9:00‐11:00, location TBD. Coaches who participated in 7 on 7/Flag will not be “required”, but strong encouraged, to participate during tackle camp. 3
