Room 1 St Peters Refugee Day
God in all things

Central idea:
How might you feel if you had
to live in a different country?
How have other people’s
actions reflected their
beliefs?
Beliefs and ideas shape people’s thinking and actions.
Lines of inquiry:
- the characteristics of religion;
How do our personal
actions reflect our
beliefs?
- how beliefs determine actions that are carried out in everyday life;
- how religion answers some of life’s questions.
What might it feel like if you
had to leave your home?
Jami asked Pastor Bryce Clark to
share his experiences.
We showed we were THINKERS by identifying
what our everyday actions tell others about our
innermost beliefs and values.

We answered these
questions!
The Year Sixes and Sevens inquired into the beliefs people
hold and how these are reflected in their actions. We investigated the
beliefs and actions of well known people throughout history. We identified
what it is exactly that Christians believe and how these beliefs are reflected
in their actions. We concluded our unit with each person presenting a
speech to the class, identifying their beliefs in any area and how these
beliefs have shaped their action (mine was on how I believe people learn
and how this shapes the way I teach!)
Pastor Brian invited two of his friends - Bronika and Deng, to visit
our class on World Refugee Day. When Bronika said she was trying to
get enough money together to visit her sons back in Sudan, our Resources
Action Group believed it was important to help, so they organised a
wonderful day for the entire school where each Year 6/7 student designed
and taught a lesson about refugees to other students in the school. Jami
invited her Grandfather - who had worked in Sudan, to share his
experiences with the whole school. We all dressed up in the colours of the
Sudanese flag and paid a gold coin. Even though a quarter of the school
was away that day, we were still able to give over $200 to Bronika! On
reflection, we think our actions reflected very sound beliefs!

How have different
beliefs changed
people’s action?
What do you know
about Sudan?
We showed we were PRINCIPLED by
taking responsibility for our actions and
wondering what these actions said about
our personal beliefs eg What does
wasting water say about our beliefs
about the environment?
Let’s play some games.
