Summer Program 2012 GENERAL INFORMATION The program for the Summer 2012 Season has been expanded to meet the increasing leisure needs of the growing League City community. Quality recreation activities and additional facilities will help you select the programs suitable for your entire family. This Summer’s Program is a cooperative endeavor between the City of League City Parks Recreation Department and the Clear Creek Independent School District. This partnership enables the City of League City Parks Recreation Department to fulfill the recreation needs of its citizens, while maximizing the use of public facilities. REGISTRATION All fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. Only registered participants will be allowed in the classroom when classes are held in session, unless otherwise specified. Online registration & Walk-in registration will be taken on the days listed under the individual programs. Online registration & Walk-in registration will be on a first come, first serve basis, pending space availability. ACTIVITY CANCELLATION The League City Parks Recreation Department retains the privilege of canceling any scheduled activity that fails to generate minimum interest. REFUNDS Refunds will only be given prior to the first class. A 10% handling fee will be assessed. Cancellations for medical reasons require documentation from a physician. Refund requests must be made in person at the Parks Recreation Office. RETURNED CHECK POLICY A $25 service charge will be assessed for all returned checks. AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT The Parks Recreation Department will make reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities who are interested in the programs offered by the Parks Recreation Department. If an accommodation needs to be made, please notify the Parks Recreation Department at least 48 hours in advance. YOUTH PROGRAMS CAMP BY THE CREEK Summer is a time to play in the sun, exercise, swim, and learn! Where can your children do all of this? Camp by the Creek! This summer camp will be held Monday through Friday from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm. Extended care is available from 7:00 am - 9:00 am, and from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm for an additional fee. Our energetic and talented camp staff entertains the children with different programs, arts and crafts, games, field trips, and outdoor activities. Camp is designed for children ages 6-12. There will be five, two week sessions of camp, for a total of 10 full weeks of fun! Camp Themes Session 1 - Week 1 June 4 - June 8 Jump into Summer! Finally we have reached summer! We will get a jump start at being outside and enjoying the sunshine! This session, campers will meet new friends and spend time each day participating in outdoor games and fun. There will be daily trips to the League City pool, and excursions to local parks for early-afternoon picnics and play dates outside! Session 1 - Week 2 June 11 - June 15 E-magination Station Bring your competitive spirit and get ready to win! This session, campers will experience virtual interactions with the latest in gaming technologies. We will hold individual and team competitions in popular games such as Rockband, Guitar Hero, Just Dance, Dance Central, Mario Kart, and more! We will top off our fun-filled week with a trip to Skyzone for a big day of fun! Session 2 - Week 1 June 18 - June 22 Get Your Head in the Game This week we will focus on team work and game play with others. Each day, campers will rotate and play several different sports. At the end of the day, teams will be created and the children will participate in tournaments with their fellow campers. To conclude the week, we will play a game of kickball at the Chester L. Davis Sportsplex in League City! Session 2 - Week 2 June 25 - June 29 Endless Imagination Campers will have the opportunity to explore their artistic and inventive side this week. We will focus on creating our own unique projects using paints, tie dye, clay, construction paper, and more! Campers will be encouraged to think outside the box as they use their hands to create works of art! We will complete our creative week with a trip to the Houston Children’s Museum to explore. Session 3 - Week 1 July 2 - July 6 In It to Win It! This session we will focus on both simple and complex games to encourage mental and physical coordination. Campers will participate in game challenges created by our talented camp staff. The campers will split into groups and rotate to different stations to test their luck! We will have fun, fast-paced and innovative challenges for all ages. At the end of the week every team will celebrate with their teammates after the ultimate game faceoff between top competitors! Session 3 - Week 2 July 9 - July 13 We’ve Got Game This week Camp by the Creek will host its very own game show! To refresh our memories, we will play all of our favorite games, sports, and watch some of our favorite movies. We will take what we have absorbed over the summer and test our memory and knowledge in a trivia-style game show. Winners of the game will receive special prizes and a celebration will be held at the end of the week! We will also be spending an afternoon touring one of Houston’s Professional Sports Facilities. Session 4 - Week 1 July 16 - July 20 Show Me What Your Made of This week children will experience camping...with a twist! We will focus on team building activities while encouraging all campers to make new friends. We will have ice breakers, games, and arts and crafts that focus on working with a partner or teammate. Groups will be working together all week for the Friday Talent Show. Parents will be invited to see what their children have come up with in the annual CBTC Talent Show. The CBTC Talent Show will be held Friday, July 20, from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Session 4 - Week 2 July 23 - July 27 Water Works! At the peak of our summer everyone is tan, smiling, and living the good life! Campers will play outdoors, relax at the League City pool, and create take-home crafts that are all about this summer’s new memories. During the week we will take our long-awaited trip to Pirate’s Bay for a day at the waterpark! On the day of the trip to Pirate’s Bay the bus will be leaving the school at 8:30am, and will not return until 5:00pm. There will be no early pick-ups on the day of the trip. Session 5 - Week 1 July 30 - August 3 Sandtastic Adventure This session begins the final stretch of our summer. We will enjoy daily trips to the League City pool, and play all of our favorite games. We will give our minds a workout when we challenge each other to see who can build the best sand castle when we visit the beach at the end of the week! Session 5 - Week 2 August 6 - August 10 That’s a Wrap Theme Week This week campers will get to dress up as their favorite characters in accordance with our daily themes! Pirates, disco dancers, cowboys, princesses-the sky is the limit! The week will be spent enjoying our last days at camp, and saying our final goodbyes to friends both old and new. At the end of the week the campers will work together to build an oversized indoor fort. BASKETBALL The League City Parks Recreation Department will offer Summer basketball for children ages 516. ICE SKATING Enjoy a fun introduction to the Olympic sport of ice skating! The class will cover the fundamentals of ice skating with an emphasis on safety and basic skating skills. Participants will learn to glide forward and backward, skate on one-foot, proper stroking, stopping, and a beginning spin! Classes are divided by age and skating experience. However, no previous experience is necessary. Children (ages 3 & up) and Adults are welcome to register. League City Residents will be able to swim this summer with the purchase of a $10 pool pass. Passes can be purchased at the Parks Recreation Office with a copy of your current water bill or tax bill. Be sure to bring proof of age for all children’s passes purchased. Any child under the age of ten will not be allowed entry unless accompanied by an adult. Please note: League City Resident and Non-Resident swim passes will be available at the Parks Recreation Office (512 2’nd Street - League Park) May 1 May 25. After May 25, pool passes will need to be purchased at the pool during open swim hours. Everyone will be charged daily admission fees if they don’t have their passes at the pool. WATER AEROBICS A unique concept to water exercise. It will work you aerobically: tones, strengthens and burns fat. It’s fun, good for you and offered throughout the Summer.
