from the school counselors!

Why parents choose Alta Vista South, a Learn
4 Life charter school instead of a traditional
school
• We offer a personalized learning approach because we understand that not
every student learns the same way.
• We provide one-on-one mentoring, tutoring, and counseling.
• We offer the flexibility to help students with extenuating circumstances
obtain their high school diplomas.
• We work with the students to help them achieve their educational goals.
• Whether it be to just get their high school diploma, to go to college, or to catch up on credit in order to go
back to their home school.
• We offer a safe learning environment
Is Alta Vista a credit recovery program
only or is it an actual school?
• Alta Vista Public Charter is a WASC accredited school with A-G
approved courses.
• Although many students come to Alta Vista to recover credits,
students who prefer the small learning environment can also take the
required classes here and be eligible to apply to a state university or
private college.
How do we help students transition after
high school?
• Our teachers work with the students to make sure they are
completing all courses required to graduate.
• The counselors meet with the students to review credits, develop a
graduation plan, and develop post secondary plans, which include:
- assistance with Job preparedness
- assistance with completing college applications
- assistance with completing financial aid applications
- assistance with college and career search resources
- assistance with scholarship search resources
Helping students transition continued….
• Counselors also work with staff to put together student activities
throughout the year that will help them prepare for post secondary
opportunities. Some examples include:
1. April 22, 2015 College Fair Fieldtrip Opportunity (8am-1:30pm)
2. April 29, 2015 College Fair with local community colleges at the San
Bernardino Learning Center off 2nd street (11am-2pm)
3. April 30, 2015 Military Day Event (12:00pm-2:00pm)
4. Upcoming – Youth Employment Opportunity Program Workshops (to help
student learn how to write resumes, prepare for interviews, search for jobs,
and additional tips).
What the counselors are working on….

Opportunity Program of San Bernardino to develop agreements and set up
dates to provide our students job preparation workshops
