Updating FOUNDATION Below, you’ll find a detailed guide to installing an update for FOUNDATION. By following these step-by-step instructions, you‘ll be able to update your server and any client computers to the latest version of FOUNDATION. Note* The Server Update must be installed on your FOUNDATION server only. The Client Update must be installed on every computer that uses FOUNDATION. Document Imaging Users With the release of 16.0.0, the separate imaging database in the Document Imaging Module has been removed. We implemented a feature that will merge your existing imaging database into the primary FOUNDATION database. Please be aware that with this change the time it takes to complete your update will increase significantly. Due to the increase in time, it is important that you set aside an appropriate amount of time to complete the update. SQL Server Information With the release of 16.0.0, the system requirements for FOUNDATION have changed. FOUNDATION will now require your edition of Microsoft SQL Server and your Windows operating system to share the same “architecture” (for example, they must either both be 32-bit or both be 64-bit). Additionally, if you are using SQL 2005 you will not able to update to 16.0.0. Prior to updating, ensure you are using SQL 2008 or newer. Before Updating Before beginning this update, perform the actions on the next two pages in the order listed: 1. Download the latest Server and Client Update files. a) In the Client Area of the Foundation website, select Downloads, Current Release. b) Scroll down the page to locate the latest Foundation Server Installer and Foundation Client Installer files. 2. Make Sure All Users Are Logged Out of F OUNDATION . Before Updating (Continued) 3. Backup Your Databases a) On your server computer, open the FOUNDATION Server Console (double-click the icon.) b) If the Windows Authentication checkbox is checked, click Connect. If it’s unchecked, enter your Database User ID and Password and then click Connect. c) Open the “Copy” tab. d) Make a copy of each “Cas_” database. To do so, click on a database in the left-hand pane, then click the Copy button. Repeat this step for each of your “Cas_” databases. Server Update The Server Update file must be installed on your FOUNDATION server only. 1. Open the Server Update file. When the Welcome window appears, click Next. 2. Verify that the Destination Folder is correct (if not, you can use the Browse button to select the correct folder). Click Next. 3. Click Next to begin the installation. 4. At this point, the Server Update will begin. Progress bars will display as your files are updated (as shown above). 5. After this part of the update is complete, the Login window will display. Most users will want to check the Windows Authentication checkbox and click Login. If this doesn’t work, you may not have administrative rights on the server computer. In that case, you will need to enter your FOUNDATION login details here. • In the User ID field, enter “dba”. • In the Password field, enter the password for your SQL “dba” account. • In the Server field, leave the default setting. This should show your server name followed by “\Foundation.” 6. In the Update Database window, do the following: a) In the right-hand pane, put a checkmark next to each database that needs to be updated. (If your company doesn’t use the cas_Main or cas_ConsolidatedGL databases, these databases can be left unchecked.) b) Make sure that the Reindex checkbox is checked Also, if you haven’t already made backups of your databases, make sure that the Backup checkbox is checked c) When you’ve completed the two steps above, click Update. 7. When you click Update the database updates will be applied. Note* The update process may pause at a certain update/schema number for a period of time. The window may say “Not Responding.” This is not a cause for concern. Please be patient. 8. After the updates have been applied, you’ll receive a message that “The database updates have been applied successfully.” Click OK. 9. Click Close. 10. Click Finish. Client Update The Client Update file must be installed on every computer that uses FOUNDATION. 1. Open the Client Update file. When the Welcome window appears, click Next. 2. Make sure that the Install Online Manuals checkbox is checked. Click Next. 3. Click Next to begin the installation. 4. At this point, the Client Update will begin. Progress bars will display as your files are updated (as shown above). 5. If you’re using Windows XP, you may receive the message shown above. This message relates to a printing component used by FOUNDATION and isn’t a cause for concern. If you receive this message click Continue Anyway. 6. Click Finish. Congratulations! You’ve finished your update! (Remember, this Client Update must be installed on every computer that uses FOUNDATION.) Unable to Run (or Finish Downloading) the Client Update When downloading or running a Client Update, some clients may receive a message that the file has an “unexpected file size.” Other clients have received a warning message from their anti-virus software, similar to the picture below. This is a known issue with certain anti-virus softwares, such as Kaspersky, McAffee, and ESET NOD32. In order to install the update, you will need to close (or disable) your antivirus software until after the installation is complete. Note* After disabling your antivirus software, you may need to re-download the Client Update file and save it to a different location. Warning Message During Client Update While installing a Client Update, Windows XP users may receive the following message: “The software you are installing for this hardware…Printers…has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP." This message relates to a printing component used by FOUNDATION, and isn’t a cause for concern. If you receive this message, please click the Continue Anyway button and continue with your installation. Error Message When Upgrading on SQL 2005 While upgrading FOUNDATION, if you are running SQL 2005 or older, you will receive the following error: Beginning with the 16.0.0 release, you can no longer update FOUNDATION if you are running SQL 2005 or older. Unable to Log-in to F OUNDATION When you try to log-in to FOUNDATION after an update, you may see a message similar to the one shown below: This message means that the version of FOUNDATION installed on your server is different to the version of FOUNDATION on this computer. To fix this problem, you will need to do one of two things: 1. If the message starts with “Your database schema number is.....,” then you’ll need to reinstall the Client Update on this computer. 2. If the message starts with “Your application schema number is....,” then you’ll need to reinstall the Server Update on your FOUNDATION server (make sure you install the update on this database). Error Messages After Logging-in to F OUNDATION After completing the Server and Client Updates, some clients have received error messages upon logging-in to FOUNDATION. To fix this problem: 1. Log-in to your FOUNDATION server and open the Foundation Server Console. (The icon that looks like a stack of gold coins.) 2. Open the "Maintenance" tab of the Server Console. 3. On the left of the screen, select the database(s) that you are receiving errors in. 4. Click the Repair DB button. 5. If you are warned that the database is in "Single User Mode," click Yes. 6.
