What Does It Take to Join?
• Read one book during the school year
• Take an online Quia quiz if the book is an award
nominee
• Add a book review to district website if the book
is not an award nominee
• All types of books are eligible:
– Any non-fiction book
• Graphic novels
• Biographies
– Any fiction book
The Design of the Games
• 12 Districts are created
• Students draw randomly (I used dominoes) to
become part of a district.
• Districts are displayed on bulletin board
The Design of the Games
• A website is designed for each district using
Google sites
• Websites house book reviews created by
students
• Three templates are created for student use:
– Nonfiction book review
– Biography book review
– Fiction book review
The Design of the Games
• Read books: win advantages for your district
during the physical games
• A “reaping” countdown calendar is added to
each of the 12 websites. (Dec 13th is the day)
• Two students are chosen from each district to
play the physical games (24 students total)
The Physical Games
• The physical games are held indoors &
outdoors, January – April during late bus
Wednesdays for 1 hour.
• Start with 24 competitors.
• Two competitors eliminated during each game
• Last man/woman standing at the final
competition will win prizes for the entire
district.

• Color code your districts
• Issue a color coded ID card
– Gives a sense of Identity
– Used to win small prizes throughout the year
– Give only to those in the district who have
completed at least 1 book review/quiz.
Thinking Ahead
• Recruit parent/teacher/student volunteers to
– Help monitor the games
– Video tape the games and/or take pictures
– Gather supplies: www.SignUpGenius.com
Funding
• Write a grant (Liberty Foundation Grant
$300.00)
• Ask for help from your PTA
• Ask vendors for help purchasing supplies
• Use your Library Activity Account
• Hold a Barnes & Noble Book Fair
• Parents are a great resource for donating
supplies
