SAVANNAH STATE UNIVERSITY MOVE ON WHEN READY REQUIREMENTS Move on When Ready (MOWR) was established as law in the state of Georgia effective July 1, 2009. As a member of the University System of Georgia, Savannah State University is committed to making college available for those high school juniors and seniors who are academically ready to do college level work. To that end, please find an overview of the program and Savannah State University criteria for admission. The MOWR Program permits 11th and 12th grade students to leave their assigned high schools and attend Savannah State University full‐time to earn course credit that will apply towards high school graduation and college. The program is intended as another option (not a replacement) for 11th and 12th graders, in addition to other regular dual enrollment programs, residential programs, early college, career academies and charter schools. MOWR program is only available to students entering the 11th or 12th grade and who spent the prior year (2 consecutive semesters) in attendance at a Georgia public high school. Admission Criteria for MOWR • 530 Critical Reading and 530 Math on the SAT‐1 OR • 24 English and 24 Math on the ACT AND • A minimum High School Academic GPA of 3.5 Students must be on track to complete high school graduation requirements. Admissions Process The admissions process for MOWR is the same for all other types of admission to Savannah State University. Application with accompanying application fee, official transcripts and standardized test scores must all be received by the application and document deadline. Immunization record is required before a student is allowed to register. Applications can be completed on‐line at www.savannahstate.edu. Students seeking admission to the MOWR program must also submit a copy of the Permission to Participate form, signed by the high school guidance counselor, parent(s) and student and the MOWR Checklist (refer to attached documents). Due to class availability constraints, enrollment in the MOWR program will be limited. Students will be admitted on a lottery basis. Students meeting MOWR Admissions requirements will be selected to participate in the program to fill the 30 seats. Application/Document Deadlines Fall 2010 ‐‐ July 1, 2010 Spring 2011 ‐‐ November 1, 2011 Academic Advising Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours as of the last day of the drop/add period. Savannah State University is under no obligation to offer courses that will insure a student participating in MOWR will complete high school graduation requirements on time. For 2010‐2011, students can only select courses from the ACCEL course list. This list is available at http://www.gsfc.org/main/publishing/pdf/2005/accel_courses.pdf . Students may not register for more than 12 hours or in courses not on the ACCEL course list. Fee Payment Tuition and Mandatory Fees will be paid by Georgia Department of Education. All other charges will be the responsibility of the student and payment will be required by the published fee payment deadline. Other Program Requirements Please be aware that on‐campus housing will not be provided for this program. In addition, students will be responsible for their own transportation and any food costs associated with the program. Participation in Extra Curricular Activities at Savannah State University will not be allowed; however, students will be allowed to participate in high school competitive and other extracurricular activities as long as the events do not conflict with MOWR class requirements and scheduling.
