What makes all this possible …Technology
• Bandwidth- impact speed of downloading media files
• Equipment -USB 2.0 ports are the standard port for connecting portable
device to a computer PC or Apple to transfer it’s fast! Potable devices
• Digital Rights Management- DRM is built into the individual digital audio
files and knows where it is allowed to play, your laptop, your iPod, and
where it isn’t!
• Windows Media Player & Adobe - standard software, (must be installed
and upgraded), works in tandem with DRM. Allows the content to be
played and transferred.
• Authentication – SIP2 protocol, check barcode to ensure the patron is
from a participating library
• Content Providers – Publishers sell content to provider ( Overdrive,
Ingram ect).. Provider offers to consortia or state.. Consortia /State makes
content available either to the library or directly to patron. Patron easy
check out process
