Outside Play Time
In the winter time we still take the children outside even if it
is only for 5-10 mins. The children need the fresh air to help
clear away the germs that spread when kept inside for too
long. We take into consideration the temperature and wind chill factor while making the decision to take them out daily. We might spend more time getting them
ready then we do outside but getting the children some exercise is important.
Please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves. When it snows we
will still take the children outside as long as they are prepared. Playing in the snow
is a fun and exciting thing for the children to do and we might end up with lots of
snow this winter. If there is snow on the ground, please provide your child with
snow pants and boots along with the hats, coats and gloves.

Please don’t shoot the messenger but we want to remind
everyone that another winter has begun. Let’s all hope it stays
mild but just in case it’s a repeat of last year, we are getting
ready. As most of you know, we do all we can to stay open but
sometimes Old Man Winter gets the upper hand and we have to
throw in the snow shovel. It’s pretty rare that we have closed
the center but if we do a decision will be made by 5:45 am. For
those of you that will be spending your first winter with us we DO
NOT follow what the public schools do. When we do have a
closing or delay we will get the information out in several ways
so you don’t have to make a useless trip. A message will be left
on the center’s answering machine, an alert on our Kiddie
Academy website (www.kiddieacademy.com/delran) and a post
on our Facebook page. Fox 29
News will also make a
announcement and a email blast via
Tadpoles. Please make sure that all
of your contact information and
emergency contact information is up

New forms will be distributed in the upcoming weeks. We are required to have a
completed form for each family in our center. Please complete the form entirely and
bring back to school in order to assist us with fulfilling these federal requirements.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Sick Child Policy
Just a reminder about our policy if your child is
sick. If a child is at the center and presents with
any of the following : fever of 101.5 or higher, vomit
or diarrhea 3 or more times, or an unexplained
rash , they will be sent home. These children may
not return to the center until they are symptom free
for 24 hours without medication unless they have a
doctor’s note saying they are not contagious and
may return to school. If your child has any of these
symptoms at home during the night or in the
morning before school we ask that you keep your
children at home for the health and safety of your
child and the rest of the children at the center. As
a parent I understand the difficulty of having to go
to work and tending to a sick child. We will do
what we can to work with you but we have to have
policies in place to protect all of the children. At
the center we constantly monitor the children to
make sure they are happy and healthy. When a
child becomes sick we alert the parents right away
and make sure that we do extra cleaning and
sanitizing of the classroom to make sure that the
illness is spread as little as possible. If your child is
sick and you are keeping them home, please give
us a call and let us know so that the teachers are
not waiting on them to start the day.

HAPPENINGS FROM AROUND THE CENTER:
Precious Puppies
Happy New Year from the Cuddly Cubs! So far 2016 has brought
us three new friends. We welcomed Angelo, Tessa, and Madison! January also brought
Miss Shai to the infant team. We are so happy to have all these new faces here to learn
and grow with us! The month kicked off with Oliver’s first birthday, happy birthday
Oliver!!! This month the cubs focused on growing their gross motor skills. While the older cubs
worked on anything from learning to sit independently to taking walks down the hall, the younger
crew participated in lots of tummy time and sitting with assistance. Fine motor skills and sensory
exploration where brought into the picture through finger painting minions with blue and yellow
paints to be displayed on February’s bulletin board near the kitchen. While some of the cubs
enjoyed the wet squishy feel of the paint others made it clear they weren’t too thrilled to be getting
messy. Can’t wait to see what February brings us!
Cuddly Cubs
January has been a busy month for the Precious Puppies! Our pack is
happy to welcome 2 new additions, Griffyn and Henry. This month the puppies focused a
lot on friendship. Miss Deanna and Miss Angie rearranged the classroom to encourage
interaction between the children, creating a large play space in the middle of the room and making
toys easily accessible. While we find it important for the babies to explore the world in their own
way, it never hurts to have a friend along for the ride and with our new arrangement all the
puppies will be playing side by side. As we transition into February parents can look forward to
Valentine’s crafts being sent home and to another month of crazy fun in the Puppies room.
Kissable Kangaroos
January started
a bright new year as we took the first day off
to welcome it. On Monday the 11th we got to
have a special snack. Yum, soft pretzels.
Wednesday the 20th was lots of fun in honor of Yoda
from star wars we got to wear all things green.
During January, we learned about so many things.
We started the month learning about New Year’s
and the different things done to celebrate it. Things
like making a special crown to wear, cards,
fireworks, and paper bowl noise makers. We learned
about snow. Then we tried making snowmen out of
snow. We also learned about the weather in
general, things like the sun, wind, rain, and clouds.
While talking about winter, we talked about all the
sports that take place during this season. Some of
the sports pictures we looked at were skiing,
sledding, dog sledding, snowboarding, and ice
skating. We also reviewed numbers; we did this
using a winter theme. They made their own flash
cards, a number collage which had numbers 1-10 on
it. As the month came to an end, we said goodbye
to Ariyah and Sean as they moved up to the Turtles
room. We wish them lots of luck and hope they
have lots of fun. We also gained two new friends,
Zyon and Ethan to the class.

Ticklish Turtles
Happy New Year!! The Turtles
hope you all had a happy and safe New
Year! We rang in the New Year learning
all about the cold. We learned about
winter, snow and ice, artic animals, and
we learned about our Five Senses. The
Turtles had lots of fun making all different
kinds of wintery crafts. We made mittens
to keep our hands warm and hats to keep
our heads warm. We enjoyed splashing in
white paint to make a melting snowman.
We really enjoyed our special crafts where
we used marshmallows. We got to make
really neat crafts and also taste the
marshmallows as well. Our favorite craft
was making mugs of hot chocolate, we
added marshmallows and also used our
sense of taste. The Turtles also enjoyed
making Penguins with cotton balls. This
craft helped us with our fine motor skills
as well as enhanced our sense of touch.
This month the Turtles learned about
Patience for Character Education. The
children worked extremely hard learning
to be patient while our friends had a turn
with a toy we like. They all did really well.
Go Turtles! We are looking forward to lots
of love in February!!

HAPPENINGS FROM AROUND THE CENTER:
Loveable Lions It has
been a joyous January in the
Loveable Lions classroom! We
learned about many fun and
interesting topics this month
including: reviewing shapes/colors and the
winter months!! During circle time, we
loved reviewing our colors in both English
and Spanish! We also loved pointing out
our shapes!! We completed several art
projects the month such as: pre-tracing
projects, name snowmen, and melting
snowmen! Our favorite science and
discovery activity was playing with our
new searching/matching game. Our lion
pack grew this month, as we welcomed
Yeliz to the room! Just a friendly reminder
that we are a nut sensitive school! If your
child arrives before 8 AM they are allowed
to bring in a nut –free snack to enjoy!! If
your child is potty training, please
remember to have multiple changes of
clothing (including undergarments and
socks) in their cubby at all times! The
Loveable Lions cannot wait to see what the
month of February has in store for them!!
Playful Penguins Hello my fabulous
family and friends of the penguin room.
This month was filled with lots of learning
and celebrating about our great heroes of
America. Our friends learned about Dr. Martin Luther
King, Mrs. King and Rosa Parks. We talked about how
courageous they were when they had to stand up
and fight for their rights. Our friends loved listening
to stories about our three heroes. Also this month,
we learning about the season of winter and the
different ways of dressing to keep warm and what
they should wear for the winter. Then we learned
about all the hibernating animals and how much food
they can store in their tummies to keep them
full through the winter season. They also made lots
of wonderful crafts like a picture of a hibernating
bear, water colored winter trees, which our little
friends glued on different colored buttons. During the
month of January, we practice our independence by
we trying to do things all by ourselves, whether it be
putting on our coats, washing our hands, brushing
our teeth, or even picking up our toys without the
help of our teacher. We also practiced our color and
number matching. During this month, we learned the
letter Z,M,B and practiced the letter sounds. Overall,
this month was a fun filled month of learning and
growing our skills.
Huggable Hippos During the month of January, the Hippos did “The Arts” theme
which is one of our favorites! This theme is so much fun because it allows us to be creative
and encourages each child to be themselves in every center! We focused on the themes,
Let’s Imagine, Let’s Read, Music, and Artists!
The Hippos did so many exciting activities like recreating A Starry Night painting, buying and
selling paintings at an art gallery, and free drawing any object in the classroom! We loved using
the instruments to play music together as a class and identifying different instruments! We used
the shake bottles in our science center to make super cool music too!
The Hippos favorite theme was the “Let’s Read” theme because we focused all of our activities
around the book for that day! This was the same week as Read Across America and Dr. Seuss
week! We read one of our favorite books, Dragons Love Tacos, and made a grocery list for items
we needed to buy tacos, created construction paper tacos, and used blocks to rebuild the house the
dragos burnt down! We had a blast with these activities! The rest of the week we read Dr. Seuss
books such as Oh The Things You Can Do That Are Good For You. This book was fantastic because
it taught us things we can do to stay healthy, like eating the right foods, exercising, and keeping
our body clean! Our activities based on this book focused on brushing the baby doll’s teeth,
painting with bubbles, cooking a healthy meal in the kitchen, and exercising outside! Thank you to
the special guests readers we had come and visit us! We truly appreciate you taking the time to do
something special for us! We loved all of our January activities so much and had a blast!
Our February Valentine’s Day Party was a huge success! Thank you so much to all of our parents
that contributed to our party! The Hippos loved creating all our Valentine’s Day crafts and making
their own mailboxes for their Valentine’s! We cannot wait for St. Patrick’s Day and the beginning of
Spring!

Bouncing Bears
in January welcomed Elijah to our class and said our goodbyes to Gabriel,
Noah and Brielle. Our theme in January was Community helpers. We worked with letters K, L, M and
N. We are starting to work more with scissors and are trying to learn to cut. To begin we are just
snipping at the paper, when we get more control of our tools then we will start cutting on lines. We do
have a few friends who are working on cutting out shapes and we are so proud of everyone. We learned so
much about the various people that work in our community. We made a Police Car box costume and enforced
safety rules, we played Red light Green Light outside, we pretended to be fire fighters and counted different
fire fighter items. We talked about florists, plumbers and doctors. We had fun with our special community
helper lacing cards and matching games. We also learned about teachers and had a blast leading learning
time. Our favorite community helper to learn about was the Life Guards. We set up a pretend beach with an
umbrella and a beach blankets and a pretend ocean. We went fishing and pretended to swim and enjoyed
some beach volley ball. We learned about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We celebrated his birthday and spoke
about how he just wants everyone to get along, be kind to their friends and play nicely together. We talked
about kind ways to treat our friends and unkind ways. We pointed out why it was kind or unkind and if it was
unkind, we came up with ideas to make our words and actions kind. In January we also had a wonderful snow
storm. The bouncing Bears put on all of their snow gear and together we built a snowman. We made snow
angels and even tried to make snow balls. There was a lot of snow and we really enjoyed it. Please make sure
your child has 2 complete changes of clothing their cubbies. If they have an accident or get too messy their
soiled clothes will be in a bag either inside of their cubby or on their hook. Please make sure everything has a
label on it as well. We are incorporating more messy activities into our weekly routine. The children love
painting on the easel, writing in shaving cream and doodling with finger paint. We are looking forward to
investigating some of the books by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle in February.
Dazzling Dolphins
Our unit theme for January was “How and Why?” We learned about
letters Aa – Dd and #7. The first week we learned about how things are made. We started off by
reading, “How Did That Get in My Lunchbox” and worked on sorting healthy and unhealthy
foods. We discussed the process of how brea and cheese are made. We also learned about how our fruits
and vegetables get to our table. In art, we made a healthy lunch for ourselves by cutting foods from the
store ads and glued them in our lunchbox. Then we read, “From Wax to Crayon” and how our crayons start
out as clear, gooey wax and learned about the process of what goes into making our Crayola crayons. Then
we talked about how ice cream is made, how the different flavors are created and what flavors we like the
best. In art, we made an ice cream cone with two scoops. We made a seven of hearts project in math and in
sensory we searched and sorted through the rice for the numbers 1-7. For our Fun Friday, we played
BINGO, explored with play dough and the cool tools, played with Trio Blocks and then practiced writing two
sentences about Fun Friday. During the next few weeks, we talked about opposites hot/cold and made a list
of those objects. Then in science, we worked with sorting mats placing the hot items on the sun and the cold
objects on the icicle mat. We played pass the ice cube, which the children really loved and then used our
tweezers to save the fish that were in our sensory table filled with ice cubes. In art, we made a sun project.
We blobbed on paint on the circle, then placed plastic over it and squished away using our fingertips. Once it
dried, we glued the sun on a dark piece of paper and used Q-tips to paint on the rays.
We learned all about details of things that happen during the day and worked on letters Ii-Ll. In science, we
practiced sorting picture of activities that happen in the day or night and worked on forming letters with the
geoboards. We learned the difference between nocturnal/diurnal and talked about the different types of
animals. In math, we put 9 kites in order then placed the correct amount of beads on each kite string. We
can’t wait to see what February has in store for us.
Zany Zebras
Happy New Year! The Zany Zebras had so much fun learning and exploring
different thing every week. First, we would like to welcome Laquan, Malik, Kiley, Noah and Gabriel to
the Zebra room. A big “Happy Birthday” to Ms. Marva on 1-1 and Laquahaun on 1-15. For the month
of January, the Zebras have learned about the numbers 11-17. We also worked on the letters and
sounds of L-S and new sight words. This month we learned about how things are made. We were surprised to
learn that we were able to use old crayons to make new crayons. We talked about the different types of
weather and the difference between night and day. The zebras enjoyed using wheels from a car to make snow
tracks with white paint in art. The Zebras also created some cool animals for art like an Octopus for the letter
Oo and a Quail made out of construction paper for the letter Qq. The Zebras also had a visit from Mr. Ken.
They had a ball singing and dancing to some of their favorite songs. Ms. Marva and I would like to say “thank
you” to our parents for the wonderful Christmas gifts and the sweet cards. We really do appreciate it.

still life paintings, and tessellations. We learned about Leonardo DaVinci, Pablo Picasso, and
Jackson Pollock. We recreated a mini Jackson Pollock painting, mixed primary colors, and admired
Vincent VanGogh’s painting Starry Starry Night. Next, we learned about winter. We drew winter
pictures, read award winning stories about winter, and made our own book titled, The Clothes I
Wear In Winter. We learned that animals hibernate, migrate, or stay put during the winter and
wrote about what we would do if we were animals. We learned about even and odd numbers. We
talked about our favorite things to do in the winter. We sorted hot and cold items, created
symmetrical mittens, and compared different versions of The Mitten. To end the month, we
learned about author and illustrator Maurice Sendak. We read Where the Wild Things Are, created
