2017 Upward Flag Football League FAQ’s Do we have to be members of Eastview to participate? No, our sports leagues are open to everyone in our community. Any K‐5th grade boy or girl is welcome to join us! Do players need experience to participate in the league? Whether your child is interested in participating in football for the first time, or returning for another Upward sports experience, we welcome all skill levels in our league. How much does it cost to participate? How do I register? The registration fee for flag football is $65 if your registration is completed by 10PM CST on June 30th. After 10PM CST on June 30th the fee is $90. Register and pay online at eastviewsports.com Are there any scholarships available? A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Please email Trish Hartman at [email protected] by June 29th for more information. What day and time will my child need to attend evaluations? Evaluations will be held on Thursday, July 13th at our fields which are located just east of the church. NEW THIS YEAR‐Please check your child in at the START time of your child’s time slot. We will have your child’s registration form, your child will try on a sample jersey and optional shorts (if ordered), and they will participate in a clinic and drills with coaches and other participants for their age group. The evaluation schedule on July 13th is as follows: K/1 is 5‐6:30PM with check in at 5PM, 2/3rd is 6‐7:30PM with check in at 6PM 4/5th is 7‐8:30PM with check in at 7PM **Please remember it is important to come to evaluations as they are designed to create fair and balanced teams. It’s also important to try on samples jersey sizes at evaluations. If the jersey size you register for is incorrect, there will be a $20 exchange fee. When do practices and games begin? Practices start the week of August 7th. The first game day is August 19th How are the players grouped? We have a K/1st division, 2nd/3rd division, and a 4th/5th grade division. How many practices will there be each week? Each team will have one weekly practice on the same day/time each week throughout the season. Practices will be held Monday through Friday. The schedules are determined at the beginning of the season and each coach will relay that information a couple of weeks before the season begins. May a player request a specific practice night and time to practice? No, due to the size of the league a player cannot select only one night to practice. However, players can (but are not required to) select one night they cannot practice. Based upon last year’s numbers we anticipate practices to be held on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. We plan to keep Thursday clear for make‐up practices if weather cause cancellations. How many games will my child play each week and what will the game time be? There will be one game each week for a total of 6 games over the season. The game time may vary each week, but the times will be similar. All games will be played on Saturdays, from early afternoon through the late afternoon. The K/1st graders play the earliest games and the older divisions follow. Can my child be on a friend’s team? Through the evaluation process, balanced teams will be created. This is our top priority. This may or may not include your child being paired with a friend/neighbor. If carpool needs are an issue, please note those in the additional comments. What comes with our uniform kit and are what items are optional? Each football player kit comes with a jersey, a flag belt, and an Upward car magnet. Football shorts are optional at $17. Any football shorts your child already has can be worn with the Upward jersey. Where will the games be played? All games are played at Eastview Christian Church, on our fields located just east of the church. How do I find out if a practice or game is cancelled due to weather?
