GIANTS SHOULD PARADE IN BIG APPLE,
NEW YORKERS TELL QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY POLL;
THUMBS DOWN ON A ROMP IN THE SWAMP
If the New York Giants win the Super Bowl, the victory celebration should be a parade in the
Big Apple, not a romp in the swamp, New York City adults say 75 – 14 percent in a Quinnipiac
University poll released today. There is strong support among men, women, all age groups and
in every borough.
Of the 51 percent of New Yorkers who are football fans, 50 percent say they are Big Blue
fans, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Another 18 percent
back the Jets, with 10 percent who cheer for both teams and 18 percent who back another team.
Football fans include 58 percent of men and 45 percent of women. Women fans back the
Giants over the Jets 55 – 12 percent, while men go Big Blue 47 – 23 percent.
“With apologies to New Jersey Gov. Christopher Christie, who says the Giants practice
in New Jersey and play in New Jersey so they should celebrate in the Garden State: New Yorkers
want Mayor Michael Bloomberg to host a ticker-tape parade if our NEW YORK Giants win the
Super Bowl,” said Maurice Carroll, director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
“Of course, Mayor Mike can always invite Gov. Christie to join us – if he pays his toll.”
From January 30 – February 2, Quinnipiac University surveyed 973 New York City
adults with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and
cell phones.
The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public
