PART 1: JOB PROFILE

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To develop and deliver communications plans and campaigns to promote and position the
Wise Steps programme with key audiences. To lead, collate and present information using
a variety of different media channels and identify those most appropriate for our targeted
participants and partners.
This will include external and internal communications, providing communications and
marketing support to the Wise Steps partnership, leading on the updating and
development of the Wise Steps website pages, management and growth of social media
channels, leading on Wise Steps event management, and any other relevant work that
arises.
Supported by the Communications and Information Manager, the role will offer the
opportunity to deliver and develop the Communication Strategy for the Wise Steps
programme.

SCOPE OF JOB
 To lead on effective marketing communications and events that support Wise Step’s
aims and objectives, and in line with Wise Group’s Communication Plans
 Independently write and collate content about the programme, for use across various
media channels
 Lead on with market research, web management, social media and various promotional
activities
 Attend exhibitions and corporate events
 Co-ordinating public relations and event management activity

Build relationships with journalists, broadcasters, bloggers, commentators, local
government press and policy officers and Wise Steps partnership and stakeholders
When required work to new and changing priorities.

DIMENSIONS AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS LEVEL
 Educated to degree level or equivalent level of experience, or professional marketing
qualification
 Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written
 Copy writing and proof reading skills
 Extensive experience of delivering strategic communications in a high pressured
environment
 Experience of developing and delivering high-impact communications strategies/
campaigns leading to demonstrable impact and coverage
 Working knowledge of social media, PPC, e-campaigns and SEO
 Experience of web content management systems
 Good knowledge of print and design processes
 Experience of market research
 Confidence with digital marketing best practice
 Strong organisational and planning skills
 Ability to develop yourself and others, providing practical support if necessary
 Ability to build good relationships with colleagues, suppliers and other internal and
external stakeholders.
 Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain relationships with
a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and at all levels
 Ability to produce compelling and engaging copy for the web, marketing materials and
the media
 Possesses excellent news sense and politically astute
 Ability to use own initiative and create PR techniques to maximise media opportunities
 Ability to work both independently and as part of a busy team
 Ability to work under pressure and to handle multiple tasks.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
 Out of hours working - evenings and weekends - may be required in some cases.
 Flexible in terms of travel (for meetings/events).

PART 2: DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicating the Wise Steps Programme
 To further develop and deliver the Communications Plan for Wise Steps, taking account of
the input from the Wise Group’s Programme Manager, Communication and Information
Manager, internal programme staff, delivery partners, external evaluators and the
Programme and Participant Boards
 To develop and maintain relationships with key journalists, broadcasters, commentators
and bloggers, developing a steady stream of relevant stories promoting Wise Steps and
placing these to ensure their visibility by identified target groups
 To maintain communications with stakeholders using various means such as Twitter,
LinkedIn, Facebook, Newsletters, web content
 To coordinate the purchase and quality control of project promotional materials for the
benefit of the programme and partnership
 To raise the profile of the Wise Steps programme by representing the programme at
meetings, activities and events as required
 To identify opportunities and respond quickly to external news and developments,
including issuing proactive and reactive statements and content
 To arrange Wise Steps programme events and promotions
 To be responsible for producing compelling, user-focused content for the Wise Steps web
pages, social media channels, marketing materials, press releases
 To be responsible for training and supporting staff and partners to encourage their
contributions to content for the website, case studies and press releases.
 To develop new and interesting ways of sharing best practice and learning.
Data Management
 To write, collate and update project testimonials and case studies
 To create and update a library of high quality photographic and multi media images for
project use
 Record and maintain all data relevant to the marketing communications and its success.

