FA YOUTH AWARD MODULE 2 – DEVELOPING THE PRACTICE
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
Building on the knowledge learnt in Module One, this course provides practical sessions and workshops
that help coaches to develop practices appropriate for the age, maturity, ability and experience levels of
their players. Coaches will be expected to plan, deliver and evaluate their own, and other coaches’
practices during the course. This second module in The FA Youth Award is most suited to club coaches
who are keen to improve their own personal development as a coach of young players of any age.
COURSE AIMS
To provide candidates who have an ongoing involvement in coaching football players with an
opportunity to improve their knowledge and confidence in coaching the 5-16 year age group.
On successful completion of the FA Youth Award Module 2 you should be able to:
1. Identify how to build observation skills
2. Reflect upon and begin to understand the outcomes of practices
3. Understand the rationale for using different types of practice
4. Interpret key issues related to age, ability, maturity & experience & how they apply to practice &
coaching
5. Understand the value of planning & evaluation/reflection
COURSE CONTENT:
Theory: Workshops will consider:
 Age and maturity issues
 Different types of practice and the advantages and disadvantages of each
 Unopposed and opposed practice development
 Dealing with talented players
Issues in planning & evaluating
Practical Involvement: This is a practical based course. Different types of practices will be demonstrated
and delivered and candidates will be expected to evaluate these practices as well as plan, deliver and
evaluate their own practices. Candidates will be encouraged to take part and those not taking part will
be expected to build on their evaluating and observation skills.
EQUIPMENT:
Candidates need to be suitably attired for the weather with football kits, appropriate footwear and shin
pads for all external sessions, and should also bring along pen and paper to all sessions. It would also be
advisable for you to bring along a change of clothes and a packed lunch.
Pre-requisites:
 be at least 17 years of age
 hold a valid 1st4sport Level 1 CCF or higher (including a current FA Emergency Aid Award plus an FA
Safeguarding Children in Football workshop certificate) AND a valid FA Youth Award Module 1

or
 hold a valid FA Youth Award Module 1 Certificate together with the Age Appropriate Coaching
Award and QTS
COURSE FEE:

£25.00 REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT per candidate
Please note that if your Club are paying for your course fee, then you must enclose a letter or arrange for an e-mail
to be sent from your Club stating that they wish to be invoiced with your application form – all fees must be paid in
full prior to commencement of the course

Please note that attendance is required for all elements of the course.
From 1st January 2013 it is a requirement for completion of your Youth Module qualification to be a member of
The FA Licensed Coaches’ Club, and evidence of this will be sought from your tutor, your County FA, and/or The FA,
before certification is made.
COURSE INFORMATION:
We have 24 places available on this course, but please book early to avoid disappointment!
As part of the McDonald’s Community Coaching Programme, coaches volunteering within Cumberland
FA Charter Standard Clubs will have priority booking until Monday 29 April 2013.
Coaches from non Cumberland FA Charter Standard Clubs can apply and will be placed on a reserve list.
If there are still places available on the course following 30 April 2013, those on the reserve list will be
offered a place.

Cumberland FA Coach Education Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel your attendance on the course you should inform Cumberland FA immediately. All our
courses are in demand and by not advising us you are preventing another candidate from attending.
If you cancel more than 2 weeks prior to the commencement of the course, a full refund will be issued. However, if
you cancel after the 2 week deadline, no refund will be given.
Consideration will be given to candidates who, for health reasons* or other extreme circumstances are unable to
attend and require a transfer to another course. (*A letter from a doctor or medical professional must be supplied).
If you should decide to transfer to another course once your application has been submitted, there will be an
additional administration charge of £15.00
