GM Innovation Challenge
THE COMPETITION
Put your innovative skills to use! Take part in the General Motors Innovation
Challenge. GM is looking for creative teams to develop and present quick and cost-effective ways
of incorporating new and rapidly advancing technologies into existing manufacturing facilities.
The Challenge:
(each team will select one topic)
The Presentation:
How would you improve manufacturing with communication, data,
analytics, controls, sensors, hardware, software, and/or measurement?
- OR How would you use robot systems and software that is capable of
assisting humans to improve manufacturing?
Each team will pick a topic and present on their conceptualized product,
process, method, or methodology for its use in vehicle manufacturing.

ELIGIBILITY
All members on each team
must meet the following
requirements:
• Participants must be
currently-enrolled full-time
undergraduate students for
Spring 2015
• Students must be at least
sophomore status
• Minimum GPA of 3.0
• Participants must be at least
18 years of age and eligible
to work in the U.S. without
sponsorship at any time.
TIMELINE
• Registration:

• Round One Judging:
Single day event 4/13
• Final Judging:
4/20 & 4/21 in Detroit, MI

TO ENTER
Teams (of 2 to 4 members) must submit one registration for all members. Registration is now open
and closes on March 16 at 10:00 p.m. EST. The following information will be required for registration:
• Team Name
• Team Captain: Name, email address
• Names, academic standing (GPA & level: sophomore, junior, senior), major,
and graduation year of every participant

ROUND ONE
Each university will have a General Motors coach identified who will provide guidance on
competition rules and direction. An on-campus kick-off meeting with the university teams will be
scheduled for the week of March 16th or the week of March 23rd. Once registered,
additional details will be provided.
All team members will present their idea on campus to a panel of
judges during the weeks of April 6 or April 17.
ROUND TWO: FINALS
Each university’s winning team will be provided travel accommodations
to General Motors’ global headquarters for round two where a mini innovation
challenge will take place on site and become a part of your final presentation (April 20th and 21st
with final presentations in the afternoon of the 21st). In this last round, teams will present their
campus winning idea along with the mini challenge to a larger panel of judges to determine
the ultimate winner.
PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
& SCORING
Presenters must dress in business attire, and all team members must speak during
the presentation. Presentations must be no longer than 15 minutes, and creativity is a must
(the final round will allow up to 18 minutes and include the mini challenge).
The team’s idea will be judged based on the following:
• FIT: Does the proposed solution address the selected gap?
• FEASIBILITY: Can the proposed solution be
reasonably implemented?
• CREATIVITY/BOLDNESS: Is the proposed solution new
and/or unique – does it push the boundaries?
• SCALE: Does the solution impact a small or large number
of individuals? Could it be used globally?
