ROLES
2.1
Concept of Roles
ArcGIS Online uses the concept of Roles, giving the Administrator the ability to control what a user can and
cannot do. Although there are pre-defined roles (i.e. User and Publisher), the B.C.'s Map Hub has taken
advantage of the ability to create "Custom" roles based on role templates. This approach allow for flexibility in
assigning privileges and managing and sharing of content at the:
User Level;
Home Community Level (aka Ministry/Agency Level); and
Province of B.C. Level (also known as the Organization)
2.2
Summary of Roles
The Administrator role is a pre-defined role and has full administrative privileges. It is reserved for Person(s)
with established skills in ArcGIS Online Account Administration and Site Management at DataBC
There are 6 custom roles defined in B.C.'s Map Hub. When requesting a new ArcGIS Online Account:
Please review these roles and select the one that is most appropriate for your day to day use.
Confirm that your Ministry/Agency has a Home Community Group set-up in B.C.'s Map Hub. If not, please
contact DataBC for further assistance.
