College Algebra Point Recovery for the Pre-Requisite Test Taken First Semester Once you have taken the pre-requisite test for this course, you may realize there are some skills that may require a little more of your attention. If you are unhappy with your grade on this pre-req test, there are some things that you can do in order to earn back some of those missing points. Here is the process: 1) Meet with Ms. Kaufman to go through your test to talk about the mistakes that were made and how to avoid them in the future. 2) With Ms. Kaufman, see which sections of the test (if any) make the most sense for you to continue working on in an attempt to earn back some points. There are 4 sections to the test – so there are 4 places (at most) where you could attempt to earn back some points. 3) Once you know which sections you will work on, take home the practice problems, assigned by Ms. Kaufman, and get to work! The goal is to focus your energy on those particular types of problems because those problems challenged you more than the others on the pre-req test. 4) Bring back your completed problems and have Ms. Kaufman check your answers and your work. If you are having success at this point, you and Ms. Kaufman will decide on a date for you to take a replacement quiz. If you are still struggling, then Ms. Kaufman will give you more practice problems. 5) Once you have completed the practice problems assigned by Ms. Kaufman, you will take a replacement quiz. For example, if you were working on the factoring section of the test, then you will take a replacement quiz that is made up of only factoring problems. How does the grading work for these replacement quizzes? You can earn back up to 50% of your missing points from the pre-req test. Here’s an example to help explain the grading part of this point recovery plan. The section over multiplication, on the pre-req test, is worth 12 points. The replacement quiz for the multiplication section will also be worth 12 points. Let’s say, that on your pre-req test, you missed 6 points on that section. At most, you will be able to earn back 3 points. So, if on the replacement quiz, you get 100%, then you will earn back 3 points to your pre-req test (100% on the quiz gets you back 100% of the possible missing points). If you get a 50% on the replacement quiz, you will earn back 1.5 points to your pre-req test (50% on the replacement quiz gets you back 50% of the possible missing points). If you want to take advantage of this opportunity, all work and quizzes must be completed by Thursday September 10. Quizzes must be taken by the time the testing center closes on Thursday September 10. Quizzes can be taken with Ms. Kaufman during Seminar time or in the testing center. The testing center is open during Seminar and after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
