CHADDERTON PARK FOOTBALL CLUB Under 10’s B - Cup Chadderton Park B V Radcliffe Borough A AWAY Date : 17/1/09 Team Ellis Jenner, Jordan Davenport, Connor Stansfield, Sam Jackson, Adam Fisher (Capt.), Matthew Cunningham, Sam Carr, Ryan Salloway After an six-week period of cancelled games it took the boys a few minutes to get into the swing of things and Chaddy park took the lead after Sam Jackson forced his way through the defence and smashed the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Chaddy Park won possession of the ball again virtually straight away and with some great passing they worked their way up the field eventually earning a corner. The corner came in and there was a mad scramble in the box, the ball was cleared but, only as far as the edge of the area. Connor Stansfield hovering on the edge of the box and in true centre half style let loose a thundering shot that nearly ripped a hole in the back of the net, the boys were on their way 0-2. A 10-minute period towards the end of the first half, the boys seemed to loose concentration. Borough managed to catch our defence high up the field and broke through with a lone striker who sent a high-powered shot past the stranded reach of goalkeeper Ellis Jenner. With little time to recover from the shock strike, Borough were on the attack again and the ball was played through to their forward. A communication mix up between Jordan and Ellis allowed the Borough forward to force his way between defender and keeper and a late tackle from Jordan, gave them a free kick just outside of our area. The free kick seemed to be heading right into Ellis’ hands until it took a wicked deflection of a the Chaddy Park wall and ended up in the back of net, 2-2. Time for one of those half time team talks! The second half started with the Chaddy Park of old and after the boys continued to apply pressure to Borough’s defence causing a moment of panic by an otherwise cool Borough keeper, was caught out of his area with the ball still in his hands. The resulting free kick on the edge of the Borough box, saw Matthew Cunningham line up to take. Matty, having earlier struck the crossbar from similar distance was all the more determined to bury this one. He unleashed a shot that flew passed every player in front of goal and before anyone could react, the ball was rolling down the back of the Borough net, to retake the lead at 2-3. Further pressure from Chaddy Park as they ate their way through the Borough’s defence Sam Jackson found himself again in the opposition box and with a well-driven shot, stretched our lead to two clear goals. Sam Carr showed his usual determined performance and was a handful for the Borough defence often putting them under pressure by challenging every ball and skilfully passing the ball around them. Ryan Salloway put in a grand performance and throughout the second half he was in charge of anything that came down the left wing. Ignoring anything Borough’s defence put in front of him, he created a number of chances on goal, that on another day he’d have added to the goal tally. Chaddy Park at times glided almost effortlessly from defence through midfield to attack with displays of passing that would put any Premiership team to shame. Sporadic raids from Borough were stopped by the super quick cat like reactions of Ellis who once tipped the ball round the post and next time didn’t even give the on coming forward a chance to get near the ball before he cleared into the opposition half. Some quick thinking from Ellis, after one of Borough’s many of target strikes, took an early goal kick passing it out wide to Jordan who with plenty of time carried it up to the half way line. With his ever calm and collected skill he managed to skip pass three Borough players before releasing a Roberto Carlos style shot thundering into the bottom corner, 2-5. An attack broke again, thanks to another early goal kick from Ellis, this time it was Ryan on the attack, from the left side. After he weaving in and out of the defenders he was one on one with the keeper, coolly clipping the ball over the keeper, it looked set to make the score 6. However, the ball struck a divot and was cruelly deflected away from goal. Captain Adam Fisher leads the team by example, chasing down anything in a blue shirt and his pinpoint passing and vision resulted in several attacks on the Borough defence. One such time Adam won the ball in midfield laid a perfect cross-field ball to Matthew Cunningham on the right wing. Matt then played a wonderful one-two with Sam Carr, took one touch to control the ball on the edge of the area before sending a rocket of a shot, into the bottom corner, which the keeper was powerless to stop. 2-6 the game was over and the Fat Lady was well and truly singing! After a six-week period of no games the boys showed with this outstanding performance that they hadn’t lost their pre-Christmas performances and were still a team to be reckoned with. Final score : Radcliffe Borough A 2 v 6 CPFC B Scorers : Sam Jackson 2, Matthew Cunningham 2, Connor Stansfield, Jordan Davenport Man of match : Ryan Salloway
