Recent and Upcoming Evergreen Enhancements
Notable new enhancements added to Evergreen in the past year, as well as known upcoming development.
Evergreen 2.5
Administration
 Phonelist Module – Generates calling lists for patron holds. Developed by MVLC Staff
 Purge Holds – Allows Evergreen sites to purge patron-identifying information for old holds while maintaining
statistical data. Developed by MVLC Staff
 Option to disallow branch as a pickup library for holds.
Acquisitions
 Ability to activate orders without loading live items into the catalog.
 PO Names are now printed on Purchase Orders.
Cataloging
 Defaults for copies imported through the client – Copies imported through the MARC Batch Import interface can
now have auto-generated call numbers and barcodes as well as default copy locations and circulation modifiers.

Circulation
 Long Overdue Circulation Management – This option allows Evergreen sites to mark items long overdue instead
of lost when an item is overdue for an extended period.
 More flexibility with floating collections – Floating copies can now be limited to floating within a library system
or floating within a small group of libraries.
 Improvements to billing interface – These changes include allowing libraries to disable patron credits; different
styles for lost, overdue, and long overdue items; and correct sorting for numerical fields. Funded by MassLNC
 The ability for sites to identify which checked-out items should display in the top and bottom panes of the Items
Out interface. Funded by MassLNC
 Wrong-shelf holds are now listed in clearable shelf-expired holds list.
OPAC
 Adjustable font size for the staff client catalog. Funded by MassLNC
 Title/Author/Subject/Series Browse with See and See Also references. Funded by MassLNC in partnership with
other Evergreen sites.
 Support for conjoined items – the catalog now has the ability to display “joined” titles. Examples of “joined”
titles might be an e-book reader loaded with several titles.
 Shelving location filter – the ability to limit by copy location on the advanced search screen.
 Web-based Patron Self-Registration – Patrons can fill out a form in the catalog to create pending user accounts.
 Linked library names – The library’s name in the search results and record page can now link to the library’s web
site. Funded by MassLNC
 My List enhancements, including improved navigation and the ability for users to set a preference for the
number of lists and number of list items to display on each page.


Mobile-friendly catalog – The catalog now responds to different screen sizes, making it easier to view on a
mobile device. Created at 2013 Evergreen Hack-a-Way by a team that included staff from C/W MARS and
MassLNC
RSS feeds now link to the standard library catalog. Funded by NOBLE.
Serials
 You can now flag serial notes as alerts so that they are more visible on the receiving interface.
 Support to include addresses on serials routing slips
Evergreen 2.6
Cataloging
 Enhancements to the Fixed Fields editor – Improvements include a right-click context menu that allows users to
select a fixed field as well as a wizard to help users enter the correct values in the 007 field.
Circulation
 New settings allowing libraries to identify a minimum and maximum price to charge for a lost item bill.
 New button in patron editor to update the patron’s expiration date.
OPAC
 Enhanced formats development project – provides more flexibility to Evergreen sites in defining the formats
that should be used for search filters, icons, etc. Funded by MassLNC in partnership with other Evergreen sites.
 New options for visibility of electronic resources – Electronic resources owned by a specific library can now
appear in search results scoped to the consortium as well as results scoped just to that library. Funded by
NOBLE.
 Library pages – The catalog now has automatically-generated pages for each library that includes the following
information: name of the library, a link to the library web site, opening hours, e-mail address, phone number,
and mailing address. The web pages publish schema.org structured data, which enables search engines to better
understand your libraries and their resources.
 Metarecord search and holds – Patrons can now select a Group Formats and Editions box to group all resources
with the same title and author into one search result. When the search result is clicked, the user is taken to all
titles included in that group. Patrons can also place on multiple formats for that title.
 The catalog has been revised to better comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Billing enhancements, including the ability to control whether negative balances appear on a patron record; the
ability to renew lost or claims returned items; the ability to void lost fees when an item becomes claims
returned; and a Lost and Paid status. Funded by MassLNC
A new search tab to support Boolean searching. Funded by MassLNC
Ability to merge and order parts. Developed by C/W MARS Staff
Speed optimization for the fund dropdown menu in acquisitions. Funded by NOBLE in partnership with other
Evergreen sites.
A new web-based client. Starter funding provided by multiple Evergreen sites, including MassLNC and C/W
MARS.
